"It's such an amazingly large issue, and you suddenly you feel like, what can I do? What can I do? It's too big for me to deal with," the 32-year-old actor told reporters Saturday in a beach cabana overlooking the Mediterranean."

What can you do?  How about not taking a private jet to your cabana overlooking the Med?

Yeah, you expect them to stop flying in their Gulf Stream Fives?  Or stop driving around in their 5 mpg Limos?

Remember, they want us to conserver (i.e. Crow - use 1 sheet of Toilet paper).

Or the democratic and Hollywood golden boy, Al Gore, telling the world to conserve energy when his own residence takes up somewhere near 20x (or 200x) the amount of power the average US home consumes.  Then he buys the carbon bonds or whatever they are which is actually a big fat load of bullshit when you look at the entire scheme from start to finish.

I must desist and agree with the conservatives here: most 'environmentalists' are hypocrites.

Again with the bias.

Proof he used a private jet to get there?

Sorry, but I just read an article in TIME yesterday about how Gore only flies commercially now, and only on flights where there are ample seats, so that he wouldn't be forcing someone else out of a seat, making them use another means of transportation.

I'll go on record again as saying that celebrities should stay the fuck out of being involved with important issues unless they can practice what they preach, remain honest and have enough balls and smarts to stand up to people who want to make the issue about them personally. ie. Michael J. Fox making Rush Limbaugh look like a complete dicksplat over the issue of Parkinson's disease. Gore just doesn't have the charisma, style or skill to pull something like that off, plus he is too closely tied to things like Occidental Petroleum and too high-profile wealthy to be 100% credible on environmental issues.

I'll agree with you on this one.  On one hand, they use their social status to bring attention to matters which they feel important.  On the other hand, they're so used to having and using luxuries gained by attaining said social status that they're uncomfortable with giving those same luxuries up, even if it's for the same reasons about matters which they're bringing attention to.

I could provide proof, but that would get a former colleague in trouble.  I will just say NetJets, and leave it at that.

And I am not talking about Gore.

Ah, well, then I'll just take your word for it.

And I know you were talking about DiCaprio, but I remember a somewhat recent thread of yours in which you said Gore should stop using his private jet to fly to all the conferences where he discusses concerns about global warming.

That's pretty much dead on right there. They sabotage themselves (and whatever movement they attatch themselves to) with foolish words and actions that less well-off people likely wouldn't engage in.

Like H.O.S said clebs bringing attention to these issues if they can't maintain the lifestyle can do more damage than good.  It's giving the people who don't want to get off their arse and do anything about it or who profit from inaction the negative spin they need to dismiss people even if what they are saying is 100% correct.
