I just got my new C2D E6600.  No thermal paste included.

Do I need it (Thermal paste).  I have seen several mentions of it in DIY guides, but it is not mentioned in the processors manual from intel.  If that means anything.
Thanks,

Is there a rectangular, probably grey, 'pad' stuck to the underside of the Heatsink?

If 'yes', you're ok - that's a thermal pad (like thermal grease, but in pad form).

If 'no', is there one included in the packaging?

If still 'no', then yeah, you're going to need some thermal grease.

Yes, you need it. Are you sure there is no past along with the heatsink, small white tube? Did you get a heatsink?

In the box is the processor and heat sink.  I do not see a small tube, but yes there is a copper and grey pad at the bottom of the heat sink.  In a polygon shape.

Yep, as reciprocity sates - that's the 'thermal pad' I was talking about - just install the CPU and heatsink as per the instructions and you'll be fine.
