Have a look around for some data-recovery specialists.

If the plates of your drive are intact (and it doesn't sound like you've chucked the thing out the window or anything, so they should be) then recovering what's on it might not be all that difficult.  If the drive has failed simply because of a motor, or a head failure or something, it could be even simpler.

Find someone who does it and ask them to at least check your drive out.  It may not be as expensive as you think, this kind of thing is becoming far more common, so there's actually a decent market out there to keep prices in check.
