Is this fair to the children? Is this morally right? I mean maybe evolution had all ready built in an answer biologically -and science is side stepping it.

here would be my only issue with it.
if the parent were at an age that would almost guarantee the child would spend a certain amount of their childhood *without* said parent, because they died of old age.

I think it is wrong ot have kids at 60; simply denying the kids a parent to a point. Its more selfishness of the mother IMO.

A 60 year old mother, or parents, wont be able to provide and or give the same quality of life as an average or younger aged mother/parents. If u hate going to see your grandparents, it would be like that all the time. the child would probably spend alot of their time taking care of their parents, denying them a "normal" childhood.

No she should not abort, but this woman did not get pregnant via man chowder injection, she chose to via in vitro.

It is wrong to have children at 60.
They are too old to take you anywhere, and in 10 years, you will have to take care of your mom instead of her taking care of you.

You'll be changing her diapers in a matter of time.

I dont think anyone should consider having children once they are past the age of 50 simply because the child would miss out on many things that an older parent might not be able to provide.

for example, going down the local park and playing football with your dad when you are 13 and he is young enough to run about without breaking a hip.

I am not saying that people over 50 would not be good parents, because they might make up for their lack of physical duties with something else, but still I dont think it is right. Fair enough if a woman can conceive when she is that age, and she has a financial background which will enable her to give the baby enough, then she has the choice, but I strongly object to older parents being given a scientific hand in the process.

I think it depends on how healthy and wealthy the parents are.

With the higher standard of living in the developed world people can live up to 90 or 100 and if they have lots of money they probably won't have to work (they are probably retired anyway) and can hire a nanny.

I think if a person of 60 is going to have a child they have really thought about it and about the dangers involved in giving birth at that age, so the kid would probably have more attention than some kids whose both young parents work full time and they get stuck in daycare all week.

No, they shouldn't abort it, they should just not do it in the first place.
Listen, my parents had me when they were 35(mom) and 30(dad). And now im 15 and there 45 and 50. I had a pretty damn good childhood because my dad was still young enough to play sports and hang with me, but not very much. See, if a parent has a kid when there 25, then hes only 40 right now, and had a pretty active time with the kid growing up.

But, if someone were to have a kid at 60, whos gunna go outside and throw a ball with the kid? and by the time the kid is 10 your 70 <- practicaly dead
By the time the kid is 15 he will get a full grasp on death as hes at your funural.

This woman made a conscious decision to have children at the age of 60, with consequences in front of her and her children.

Would you not care if your mother died in your 20's? Are there not benefits to having parents alive beyond your 18th birthday?

Of course I'd care and there are obvious advantages to having both your parents alive, (dropping over laundry for example), but 2 parents are no longer essential. I knew a guy growing whose parents seperated when he was 5 and he never saw his mother again and his father never remarried, and other friend whose mother died of cancer when he was 20.

I don't know why I'm arguing because actually I think 60 is way too old.../

Funnily enough that's an interesting statement. Perhaps those who choose to sprog in later life should pay a tax given that there is a higher likelihood of the parents dying before seeing their child through their education or even into their teenage years, thus burdening the state with the welfare of the child.

Its hard to know how the kid will really feel unless your parents had you at 60. Although it is the woman's choice to have the child, I think it is wrong to have a child at that age because he/she will miss out on a lot of the things that a child born to a 25-35 year old would have. A father who is 25-40 (maybe older..) is still young enough to be active, and run, and play with their child, but by age 60-70, the father is getting to be too old to do much more than just be...dad. Not being able to go out and play may not be that big of a deal, but I think it is an important developmental step in a child's life to be able to have fun with Dad. That is just my opinion though. To every man his own!

My dad was 50 when I was born. I was a very active kid, im 30 now. I remember how upset I would get when my dad would quit throwing the ball around after like 10 minutes cuz he was too tired and his joints hurt. If you see my dad now u would think he was my grandfather or even great grandfather. Hes 80 now.

My wife and I recently attended Adoption classes required by the state of Arizona. 70% of the people in our class were Grandparents adopting their Grandchildren. This says two things. One, what the hell is this generation doing and thinking in reference to taking responsibility for their actions and two, I can pretty much guarantee their Grandparents won't be around until they even graduate High School. So I ask you, if 60 is too old to bring a child into this world, it's obviously too old to adopt them.....right? I disagree on both counts. What matters here is this child is cared for and nurtured for in the formative years of it's life.
