Economy-Today, The Bureau Of Labor Statistics Released New Jobs Figures – 88,000 Jobs Created In April.  Since August 2003, more than 7.8 million jobs have been created, with more than 1.8 million jobs created over the twelve months ending in April.  Our economy has now added jobs for 44 straight months, and the unemployment rate remains low at 4.5 percent.

The American People Are Using The President's Tax Relief To Produce Strong And Lasting Economic Growth

Real After-Tax Personal Income Increased At A Strong 4.5 Percent Annual Rate In The First Quarter.  Per capita, real after-tax income has risen by 10.4 percent – more than $3,000 – since President Bush took office.
Real Wages Rose 1.3 Percent Over The 12 Months Ending In March.  This is faster than the average rate of the late 1990s economy, and it means an extra $765 in the past year for the typical family with two wage earners.
The Economy Has Now Experienced Over Five Years Of Uninterrupted Growth, Averaging 3.0 Percent A Year Since 2001.
Since The First Quarter Of 2001, Productivity Growth Has Averaged 2.8 Percent.  This is well above average productivity growth in the 1990s, 1980s, and 1970s.
Consumer Spending Increased At A Solid 3.8 Percent Annual Rate In The First Quarter.
Allowing Tax Relief To Expire Would Result In The Largest Tax Increase In Our Nation's History

As A Result Of The President's Tax Cuts, Every Taxpayer Who Paid Taxes Will Get Tax Relief This Year. In addition to cutting taxes on everyone who pays income taxes, the Administration has doubled the child tax credit, reduced the marriage penalty, cut taxes on dividends and capital gains, and put the Federal death tax on the road to extinction. As a result, in 2007:

113 million taxpayers will receive an average tax cut of $2,216.
45 million families with children will receive an average tax cut of $2,864.
27 million small business owners will receive an average tax cut of $4,711.
Over 5 million individuals and families will see their income tax liability completely eliminated.
Strong Economic Growth Has Helped Produce Record Levels Of Tax Revenue, Which Is Helping Us Toward Our Goal Of A Balanced Budget.  Receipts have increased nearly 35 percent since the tax relief was fully implemented in 2003, and the deficit has declined by $165 billion in the last two years.

Record Tax Revenues Generated By Our Growing Economy Helped Us Reach The President's Goal Of Cutting The Deficit In Half Three Years Ahead Of Schedule.
Spending Restraint And Keeping Taxes Low Will Help Us Reach The President's Goal Of Balancing The Federal Budget By 2012.
Unless We Act To Make Tax Relief Permanent, Americans Will Face A Massive Tax Hike. The President's tax relief is set to expire at the end of 2010. If this happens, hard-working Americans will get stuck with the bill:

If you have children, your taxes would go up by $500 for each child;
If you are in a family of four making $60,000 a year, your taxes would go up by more than $1,800; and
More than five million low-income Americans who now pay no income taxes would once again have to pay.

Energy-Today, President Bush Directed The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) And The U.S. Departments Of Energy (DOE), Transportation (DOT), And Agriculture (USDA) To Take The First Steps Toward Regulations Using The "Twenty In Ten" Plan As A Starting Point.  The President has directed these agencies to take the first steps toward regulations that would cut gasoline consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles, using as a starting point his "Twenty in Ten" plan to reduce U.S. gasoline consumption by 20 percent over the next 10 years.

In The State Of The Union Address, The President Announced His "Twenty In Ten" Goal To Cut U.S. Gasoline Consumption By 20 Percent Over The Next Ten Years.  By increasing the supply of alternative fuels and making motor vehicles more energy efficient, the President's "Twenty in Ten" plan provides a framework to address energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles and off-road engines and equipment.
The Administration Has Sent Congress Legislative Proposals To Achieve "Twenty In Ten" With Two Steps:

Increasing The Supply Of Renewable And Other Alternative Fuels By Setting A Mandatory Fuels Standard To Require The Equivalent Of 35 Billion Gallons Of Renewable And Other Alternative Fuels In 2017 – Nearly Five Times The 2012 Target Now In Law.  In 2017, this will displace 15 percent of projected annual gasoline use.
Reforming And Modernizing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards For Cars And Extending The Current Light Truck Rule.  In 2017, this will reduce projected annual gasoline use by up to 8.5 billion gallons, a further 5 percent reduction that, in combination with increasing the supply of renewable and other alternative fuels, will bring the total reduction in projected annual gasoline use to 20 percent.
On April 2, 2007, The Supreme Court Ruled That The EPA Must Take Action Under The Clean Air Act Regarding Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Motor Vehicles.

In Response To The Supreme Court's Ruling, The President Directed Cabinet Agencies To Take The First Steps Toward Regulations Based On "Twenty In Ten" That Will Make Our Economy Stronger, Our Environment Cleaner, And Our Nation More Secure For Generations To Come.
The President Has Directed Members Of His Administration To Complete This Process By The End Of 2008.  The President has asked Administration officials to listen to public input; carefully consider safety, science, and available technology; and evaluate benefits and costs before they reach any decisions.  This is a complicated legal and technical matter that will take time to fully resolve.  Yet it is important to move forward.
The President Also Signed An Executive Order Requiring Coordination Among Federal Agencies Tasked With The Development Of Any Regulations Affecting Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Motor Vehicles.  The Executive Order will ensure coordinated agency efforts on regulatory actions aimed at protecting the environment with respect to greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles, nonroad vehicles, and nonroad engines proceed in a manner consistent with sound science, analysis of benefits and costs, public safety, and economic growth.
The Steps The President Announced Today Are Not A Substitute For Effective Legislation.  The Administration will redouble its efforts to work with Congress on a bipartisan "Twenty in Ten" bill.

Today's Actions Build On The President's Continued Commitment To Our Energy Security And Our Environment

Since The President Took Office, The Federal Government Has Invested $12 Billion To Develop Cleaner, Cheaper, And More Reliable Energy Sources.  We have now reached a pivotal moment where advances in technology are creating new ways to improve energy security, strengthen national security, and protect the environment.  The President's "Twenty in Ten" goal will help achieve all these priorities.

The President Has Devoted $37 Billion To Climate Change-Related Activities Since 2001.  The President has requested an additional $7.4 billion for FY 2008 – $205 million more than this year. This amount would support a wide range of climate change-related research, development, and deployment programs, voluntary partnerships, and international aid efforts.

The President Has Twice Increased Fuel Economy Standards For Light Trucks, Covering Model Years From 2005 Through 2011.  The two actions cumulatively raised light truck fuel economy standards from 20.7 mpg prior to 2005, to 24 mpg in 2011.  These actions are expected to save 14 billion gallons of fuel over the life of the affected vehicles, and reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 107 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

We Are Well On Track To Meet – And Currently Projected To Exceed – The President's 2002 Goal Of Reducing U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emission Intensity 18 Percent By 2012.  U.S. greenhouse gas intensity declined by 2.5 percent in 2005, much faster than the average decline of 1.9 percent over the 1990-2005 period.

Immigration-Three Key Points About The Bush Administration's Border Security And Worksite Enforcement Achievements

Since The President Took Office In 2001, The Administration Has More Than Doubled Funding For Border Security – From $4.6 Billion In 2001 To $10.4 Billion In 2007.

As A Result Of This Investment And Other Deterrence Factors, The Number Of People Apprehended For Illegally Crossing Our Southern Border Is Down By Nearly 27 Percent In 2007 From This Point In 2006.

Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) Has Replaced The Old System Of Administrative Hearings And Fines With A Much Tougher Combination Of Criminal Prosecutions And Asset Forfeitures – A Much More Aggressive Approach Toward Cracking Down On Employers Who Knowingly Hire Illegal Aliens.  This has resulted in a significant increase in arrests for criminal violations brought in worksite enforcement actions.
Increased Border Security Is Helping Deter Illegal Immigration

The Administration Has Expanded The Border Patrol From Approximately 9,000 Agents In 2001 To More Than 13,000 Agents Today.  By the end of 2008, there will be a total of more than 18,000 agents, doubling the size of the Border Patrol under the President's leadership.

In Addition To Increasing Manpower, The Administration Is Improving Infrastructure And Technology At The Border.  Today, there are in place:

Thousands of ground sensors;
Hundreds of day and night cameras;
86 miles of primary fencing, part of 370 miles planned by the end of calendar year 2008;
Over 350 miles of improved patrol roads;
78 miles of permanent vehicle barrier;
4 Ground Surveillance Radars (GSR); and
1 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) in Southern AZ with another coming on line in July of this year.
As Upgrades Are Completed At The Border, National Guard Members Are Supporting The Border Patrol In Texas, California, Arizona, And New Mexico Under Operation Jump Start.  As the Administration continues building up the Border Patrol, Operation Jump Start is providing complementary manpower on the border, allowing the Border Patrol to move more than 560 agents from support roles into frontline positions.

Since The Launch Of Operation Jump Start In June 2006, National Guard Members Have Assisted The Border Patrol In Apprehending More Than 72,000 Illegal Immigrants And Seizing More Than 195,000 Pounds Of Illegal Drugs.
The Administration Has Effectively Ended The Practice Of "Catch And Release" For Every Non-Mexican Apprehended At Our Borders.

The Administration Has Added Thousands Of New Beds At Detention Centers Across The Country.  Since the President took office, the Administration has provided funding for 7,798 new beds to accommodate apprehended illegal immigrants – a 40 percent increase over 2001.
The Administration Has Expedited The Legal Process To Reduce The Time Non-Mexican Illegal Aliens Remain In Detention Awaiting Deportation By About Half.
The Administration Is Holding Employers Accountable For The Workers They Hire

Arrests For Criminal Violations Brought In Worksite Enforcement Actions – The Most Effective Means Of Enforcement And Best Measure Of ICE's New Approach – Have Increased Significantly.  These criminal arrests have increased from 24 in FY 1999 to a record 716 in FY 2006 – a nearly 2900 percent increase.  There have been 588 criminal arrests since the beginning of FY 2007.

During The First Half Of FY 2007, ICE Obtained Criminal Fines, Restitutions, And Civil Judgments In Worksite Enforcement Investigations Against Egregious Violators In Excess Of $29 Million.

In April 2006, ICE Carried Out The Largest Single Worksite Enforcement Action Ever Taken Against An Employer.  Seven current and former managers of an international logistics service provider were charged with harboring aliens and document fraud, and 1,187 unlawfully employed illegal aliens were arrested.

In Today's News: "Suspected Illegals Arrested In Raid"

Springfield [MO] News-Leader: More Than 100 Poultry Workers Accused Of ID Theft.  "More than 100 employees at a large poultry processing plant in Butterfield were arrested Tuesday based on allegations they used stolen identities to work in the country illegally. Armed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents rounded up all employees during the morning shift Tuesday … and checked them one by one."  (Wes Johnson, "Suspected Illegals Arrested In Raid," Springfield [MO] News-Leader, 5/23/07)

ICE Special Agent Pete Baird: "These Worksite Enforcement Actions Help Reduce The Job Magnet That Encourages Aliens To Enter The Country Illegally."
The Joplin [MO] Globe: "The Arrests Were The Latest Action In An Ongoing Investigation."  "According to the immigration agency, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri already has charged five people who previously had been arrested, convicted or pleaded guilty in separate cases to Social Security fraud, making a false claim of U.S. citizenship, aggravated identity theft and/or being an illegal immigrant in possession of a firearm."  (Melissa Dunson, "Raid At Poultry Plant Results In More Than 100 Arrests," The Joplin [MO] Globe, 5/23/07)

The Associated Press: "Federal Agents Have Conducted Several Mass Arrests Since The April 2006 Raids … At 40 Sites Nationwide."  "Nearly 3,000 suspected illegal workers have been arrested in dozens of states in all."  ("100 Suspected Illegal Workers Arrested In Mo.," The Associated Press, 5/23/07)

Budget- THE PRESIDENT’S 2008 BUDGET
Reducing Deficits Each Year and
Balancing the Budget by 2012
The President’s FY2008 Budget reduces the deficit each year and reaches a balanced budget within five years. A strong economy and better spending restraint will help us achieve this goal, while continuing to invest in the Nation’s prosperity and security.

Keeping the Economy Strong
The Budget makes tax relief permanent to ensure our strong economic growth continues.
Since the President’s tax relief took effect, increased innovation and investment has created more than 7 million new jobs, and helped boost wages.
Pro-growth polices that focus on providing quality education, affordable health care, energy security, and making Americans more competitive will sustain economic growth and prosperity for future generations of all Americans.
Spending Taxpayers Dollars Wisely
The Budget holds the growth in non-security discretionary spending to one percent, well below the rate of inflation.
Budget reforms, including comprehensive earmark reform and a legislative line-item veto, will help eliminate wasteful and unnecessary spending.
Sensible reforms are needed to slow the unsustainable growth of entitlement spending.
Combating Terrorism and Protecting the Homeland
The Budget supports our troops fighting terrorism, strengthens our military for the future, supports our efforts on the diplomatic front and protects our homeland from attack.
This Budget improves the timeliness and specificity of the information provided to Congress and the American public about the cost of the war.
It shows the full cost of the war through the rest of the President’s term –and also provides detailed justifications.

But didn't you know that taxpayer's pockets are bottomless?

See, thats a main problem I have...How is it that we can predict the incoming amounts, and then almost wantonly just spend way more than we bring in?  Defense spending wouldn't bother me if the $120 billion were going for troop bonuses, paying for more soldiers, etc. instead of defense contractors' pockets.

Good job, you just quoted a White House press release. You are aware that the point of those is to make him look as good as possible whilst not actually saying anything of importance, aren't you?

maybe if you werent ignorant and read something than you would know what was being discussed is actually of importance. for your information thats not a press release, it is a compilation of information that can be found at whitehouse.gov. whitehouse.gov provides information along with press releases to the public about what has/ is being done by the current administration. it reflects what has been done about the economy,imigration, policy when dealing with iraq, the environment and so on and so forth. of course all information in the media no matter what the source presents a sense of bias one way or another. but from whitehouse.gov you are getting the information directly from the source and you can take that and form it to fit your liking however you want; whether you are for or against what is being done. dont just use the war in iraq as a fsckin excuse for disliking bush. what else to you have to base you discontent on? until you able to express your disatisfaction in a meaningful way stfu....and for those not living in the U.S. what the fsck does it matter to you and how much do you know? ffs if you dont know shit about what is going on then dont open your mouth.

What gives you the right to call him ignorant?  What else would you expect from a GOVERNMENT BASED website about the current GOVERNMENT?  What do you think the point of view towards that government is going to be?  Show me a government based source that negatively portrays that same government, and I'll give you the right to call me ignorant.  I don't even have to read that source to know that it's going to be completely biased.  If you can't see that, I pity you.

wtf are you going on about? his statement was totally ignorant saying all that was given was a press release and nothing of importance was talked about. when there were mere snipets of press realeases through out the piece i had previously posted through out seperate news organizations. the information provided shows what is being done and in no way shape or form is a press release.....but information ladened with press releases as support (which yes is bias).....but then again i never said it wasnt a biased site...........

All the retards that try to defend him come from a highly republican family or just are totally republican.

all i got left to say is do your own research and develope your own opinions based on what you find....dont just go with what you here on the news or read in the papers/ magazine etc. everything you see is going to be strewed and manipulated to present biased information by either side whether for or against. which is why the media cannot always be trusted. when doing research turn to sources that present both sides of the story and leave you to create your own opinion of the situation.

on a side note -- the presidents approval rating is higher than that of the approval rating for the majority democratic congress. interesting.

dont get me wrong, bush has fscked up during his presidency but it is my opinion that he is doing his best to make things right. although, the manner in which he goes about it may not always be the best option.

But...but...but...

We get Bradleys, Strykers, clunky Humvees that are somehow usable as APC's (according to command), leaky helicopters and a slew of canceled projects in return! And don't forget the adenovirus outbreaks at our state-of-the-art boot camps.
