Get a large shoulder to shoulder tattoo on your back. Those are the nicest.

Make it tribal-themed with angel wings and have it say Mom in calligraphic writing.
That would be awesome.

Also, my condolences. Sorry for your loss.

I had a friend whose father died when she was in high school and then her mom died when she was about 25. It's 10 years later and you can still see how hurt she is every time you talk to her. It's fucking brutal.

You don't need a tattoo, you need to talk to a professional.

Remember, tattoos can go bad easily if infected, and the colour fades with age.  Maybe keep a pic of her on your bedside table, that way it'll last a lot longer.

Also, see a counsellor.

Sorry to hear of your loss, a 13 or 14 year old died at our school two months ago, and there were about 15 people with him but none of them could do anything - his throat closed up and he died on arrival at the hospital.

The "Heart/Mother" tattoo is a cliche. If you really want to honour your Mum do something unique.

He could tattoo my face onto his back.  I'm pretty sure no-one's ever done that before.

i look at like this.  something you think might be bad ass now might not be the same thing you like when your 40 year family man.  like my tattoos.  i got my first one when i was 16 and my last one when i was 18.  all from a part of my life that I almost wish I never went through but Im glad I learned from and I feel like a stronger person.  the only thing that remains are the tattoos.

do you still like the same stuff you did when you were 5, hopefully not.

Do it then.  Might I suggest 2 hands praying (if you are religious). .. Meh. Ignore me -It is your tat, do it your way.  If want a reason to get ink, I believe that your choice/memorial to your Mother is among the righteous reasons to do so.  I hope your tattoo helps you to find the closure you are seeking.

I think that thats a good way to honor her.  Having somebody to talk to is always good, if that means a therapist.

Very sorry for your loss, I can't imagine my life without my mom.

A tatoo is a good way to reflect on the outside how you feel on the inside, I say go for it.

i keep all my important memories to myself.  i dont care about gauging any kind of reaction people would get to see a tattoo.  im not trying to be the center of their attention.  anything worth remembering is worth keeping it to yourself.

i never understood "honoring some one" with a tattoo, but people reflect in different ways i suppose.

tattoos depend on other people seeing em.  i dont like drawing attention to myself.

I agree 100%.  You don't get a tat for other people or to incite a reaction.  Well, maybe some do

Yeah. I see where gunslinger and seal are coming from. I too don't see the point in doing something as perminant like that. But if he feels this deeply about this sort of thing and he understands what hes doing then I say go ahead.

It won't help.  I'd seriously consider something with more meaning.  Picking something off the wall with your mom's name in it will only leave you with an "I was a young, dumb kid" feeling.

Obviously, this is something that will always be important to you, so I will not be ignorant and say "don't do it".  Just be smart about what you do.

Consider this, because I have several tattoos, including partial sleeves, sides, and chest.

If you have to, try henna body painting and see if you get tired of being marked after awhile. It's temporary. Just get the stuff that's additive-free.

great advice

on top of that, i think your mom deserves more than ink on your skin to remember her.  you dont need another humans hands to permanently scar you.  the guy whos doing the tattoo prolly never knew your mom.  moms is way too important for a simple tattoo when you got guys who get the dumbest things on their skin.  kind of devalues the whole "memorial" in my opinion.

my room mate is a professional tattoo artist.  if any one is in LA i highly recommend him, even though i dont do the tattoo thing anymore.
