My New Build - What do you think?

I will be building my first computer ever/buying my own computer (well not really, it's graduation money haha) and I would like to have your suggestions/views on my PC. Tell me if these parts are hot/good right now and if they are all compatible (I think so, doesn't hurt to check right?).

Your help would be greatly appreciated because my Dad does not believe in my ability to build a computer. I'll prove him wrong, dead wrong...with your help of course. KARMA FOR ALL!

I'm not so sure about the choice in harddrive because I want alot of space/good RPM/good transfer rates.

Doesn't that mobo support SATA300 ? If so, you should look for a SATA300 HDD, not SATA150...

(though, having said that, dunno if they do SATA300 Raptors yet... anyone?)

try corsair xms ram, and great choice on the mouse, i love mine.

If you've got extra cash, a 21 inch monitor is nice as well.

what's your budget?

The nine hundred is very nice, but i would recommend that you buy a 120mm blue LED fan to go on the side window because it just doesnt look complete without it (mine didnt). Oh yeah and you should make sure to get an Antec brand fan so the colors of the lights match up

Not sure. Graduation money fluctuates but I'm pretty sure it's not going over 1500. My parents would flip.

It has been my observation that many users sink way too much money into their motherboard and brand name memory for no noticeable performance increase.

Good choices on everything else, though. However, I'd put the money saved by getting the ram I linked towards a 20.1" widescreen with 1680x1050 resolution to compliment your video card.

Speed: PC5400 667MHz

Does the speed of that RAM matter if it is lower than the speed that the motherboard runs at?

And do you have any suggestions for a SATA300 Hard Drive/20.1 inch monitor? Keeping it relatively low priced?

SATA 1.5 is fast enough dude. I have a raptor 74gb and bf2 is on that HDD, I load bf2, all high (1024x768) running X2 4800+, 2gb g.skill, asus a8n32 sli deluxe, 7800GTX, in 30 seconds.

20.1 in monitor? Dell. They make really good monitors. And they are CHEAP. Although, when I was looking, their bigger monitors, ie. 24'' was very good for the...errm $700? But as you get smaller, ie. 22'' you or 20'' you'll find better monitors from different compaines for a little bit more / less.

You may not want to listen to me, I haven't 'looked' into computer stuff for a LONG time, probably 6 months or so, as you can tell, my computer is quite old x_x I bought my 7800GTX when they were raving about those in SLI running bf2...../end of ramble. sorry.

Yes, a SATA 150 drive will work on a mobo with SATA 300.

A SATA 300 drive will also work on a mobo with SATA 150.

In both cases, they will only work at SATA 150 speeds (1.5Gb/s peak).

Okay, fist off I think you should look at the XFX 8800GTS 320MB because in some areas the 320mb out-performs the 640mb for about 100 bucks less.

Everything looks good there except for the burners and the gfx card, I just wanted to throw out that you can get more bang for your buck with 320MB.

The Antec 900 is a fantastic case and a side fan is not needed. 150GB is not very much HD space these days, you may want to get an additional SATAII 7200 RPM drive for storage as they are fairly inexpensive.

Just got the Zalman 9700, it's amazing, lowered my overclocked CPU by 9c from stock cooler on load. It can be a bit noisey on full, but there's no need to have it on full, mediums the maximum I ever push it too. It's got a fan controller which makes it excellent when you're watching a film, you can turn it right down.

Only problem is that its MAHOOSIVE!

Should fit alright, though you might want to check the width of your case, it could touch the side.

No, that power supply is excellent, especially for that price.

You do not need 700W unless you're running SLI and/or have a dozen optical/harddrives.

Yeah...a 10K SATA150 is going to be faster. You'll see most high-end builds go with either a single Raptor or two in RAID0 for the application end of storage needs (rarely do you see Raptors in RAID1, etc.), and a higher-capacity drive (500GB+) for media and other large data.
