Actually I never knew how far you could go with an airsoft gun until I took my concealed carry weapon class here today, part of it was the NRA basic pistol course and they had airsoft stuff in the book. Apparently you can shoot airsoft competitively, I never knew that. I can see how airsofts are a great stepping stone to an actual firearm, so I hope you all have the great privilege to actually own a real firearm one day if you so choose. Until then keep shooting each other with airsofts and get it all out of your system before ya get the real thing lol.
I have both real steel and airsoft.  Real Guns are fun, but you can't go around shooting your friends with them, and airsoft lets you play with guns you wouldn't normally.

Well, my friend really wants to get me into Airsoft guns and take me to the ranges and shit. I'm sure plenty of people here have experience with it, so any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking at the P90 for some BF2-esque fighting, but the AK-47 looks like a really nice and simple gun. Easy to re-load too.
From my experience of researching and advice from others: ya i really wanted an p90 but my uber airsoft friend said that "most airsoft guns shoot the same fps and are usually the same price (considering they are from the same company) so what you want is a rifle/smg that is easily/ could be heavily modified such as mp5 ,m4/16, aks "
Remember that the p90 physical has a shorter barrel so that may be a minor factor on velocity/range.  plus as i said before you want a easily modable rifle, the TM p90 are not really modable, its red dot is not removable if i can recall; unless you get the triple railing version.  so i say get the ak47; the only major down point is that its huge so proning is hard and QCQ is difficult but you get 600 rounds in your magazine and it modable here is me with my ICS mp5. note that there is no vertical grip i am just holding the magazine....i have to because i got a shiitty high cap magazine and it literally falls off if you dont' hold it in place while your running or standing https://img161.imageshack.us/img161/8498/dscn0193dj1.jpg

I'm 15. I'd never be able to. And I wanna have a gun that I can shoot at someone and not kill them.

well again, you can't just shoot a real gun at each other ...well you can but...you will die or receive major injuries . i know the pricing for airsoft is high (btw airsoft can easily go for 500+) especially when you can get a real gun for less. Trust me, my first reaction to airsoft was ACTUALLY the same as yours, why the hell am i going to get a 400 dollar mp5 when i can get a real gun or even an airgun to kill them coons/rabbits? the answer is simple think  of airsoft as ....bf2 Live action minus dieing. Its fun, its expensive, but it can do what real guns can't do, kill. airsoft is suppose to be shot at other people with out killing them. plus its pricing tag is simliar to paintball also, mainly because the paint balls cost more then bbs. but ya joker you got quite a collection there to much man too much

I've got a Classic Army M4 tricked the F out pretty much with every accessory.. necessory or not on it. m140 Spring, chronos at around 480, (Have to open gearbox constantly to check for warn parts though ).

I also own a real M4 (California legal of course), built from parts with only the necesseties on it, rail and aimpoint comp C3. Next investment is the Aimpoint 3x mag.

KWA for the USP
TM for the 1911

Both excellent pistols. Love em, I've gotten some pretty good kills/stories with em.

Actually, not true.

The P90 makes an EXCELLENT CQC gun in airsoft. But very very easy to mod into say... a long range DMR type weapon. Since the P90 is so much like an AUG, you can Dynamat the inside, theortetically quieting the gearbox. Now mix that in, with a longer barrel, high rated spring, you got yourself a P90, thats insane. Anyways, the P90 in HK that we were playing with had a 590mm barrel in it, with a 400FPS upgrade. That thing was hitting people at 150+ feet...

The one I would get is quite costly though. It's like $800... Railed out, and tricked out ^^.

well i learned somethink new . but of course you can't do that to a Tm p90 now can you or is it? well....it really does not matter because what you describe above is like 800 dollars and i don't think i can afford that much   i still trying to find a mid range price to proverty striken red dot for my mp5 and some low cap mags.

Roughly how far can these weapons shoot? I mean i've never seen Assault Rifle BB guns. Only pistols that had quite short range, how are the AR BB guns?

Well. Depends.

For your MP5 - Get some STAR or MAG mags... Cheap, low-cap, durable, and they come in a box of 6ish... Don't remember how much though.

You can do it to a TM P90... It's really the only AEG p90 currently out there.

Well, technically you can. All you really need to do is get a REALLY REALLY REALLY long silencer, our an outer barrel. Along with a 590mm, 6.03-6.04 tightbore... and a stronger spring, bushings, re-shim it... It'll cost maybe 300-400ish... Depends what brands you get. I mean you really don't need/probably want the version I'm getting. It barely resembles a P90

Well. Actually I stand corrected.

http://www.aegarms.com/display_pdetail.php?pid=2503

$265 with battery and charger + $50 for shipping + $45 for inner barrel... Then add some mags...

Depends, a lot depend on what model, and the internals.

Stock - Most guns shoot about 100-150 feet.

While in Japan and the UK, they have a FPS limit at about 330FPS, that's all that you can really reach it.

In the US, most players get their's upgraded to 400fps, although some fields around here do not enforce an FPS limit.

For example: My Tanaka M700 shoots 550fps with .2's. However, at this velocity, I want to use heavier-weight bb's to guarantee a more accurate shot. Heavier bb's do travel farther, but slower. I can hit a target though, at 250 feet, every time, at 300 feet... It's a tad pushing it. But def. pretty far.

Then, my ICS AK-74 shoots 387FPS. It has gotten 3 headshots at 180 feet, measured.
My UTG MP5 - Shoots maybe 100-120feet.

In airsoft, you can have a little small pistol, shoot 200feet, outranging a typical gun...

It all depends on how you upgrade it, how the internals are, and really how great your hop-up works. FPS isn't everything.

Ty for the info. I'm thinking of getting a pistol for somewhere around £30-60. Not sure about what type to go for, Gas, Electric, Spring?

Also, you'd think some Japanese thing like Airsoft would do their shit in metric! I know i'm from the UK. But when you do Physics and learn everything in metric, it gets annoying. Especially because i base everything relative to the speed of sound. So real pistols fire @ around 200-400 m/s (speed of sound = 330 m/s) and it gets annoying having to convert all the f/s into m/s so i can get a personal idea of how much bang you're getting.

Ah well, the speed of sound in feet/s is 1083 fps. So really powerful airsoft guns go @ just below half the speed of sound. Whilst most go at a quarter, not bad i suppose. Here's me comparing real guns to airsoft...

How far can the L96 airsoft gun shoot? I'm seeing some stealth sniping potential here.

What L96A1 are you talking about?

A.) UTG L96A1 - Best of the clone L96's, it COMES with a tightbore pre-installed. Break in the hop-up with a 1000 shots, you got a gun that can shoot 200-230 feet, stock.
B.) Maruzen L96A1 - Stock it shoots, a 150 feetish. Upgrade with a tightbore and a 550fps kit, you can hit at above 250 feet.
C.) Tanaka M700 AICS - Looks like an L96A1 - Fine yourself a pre-ban one, you got a gun that can shoot at 250-300 feet..

---

Mekstizzle - What kind do you prefer? Gas tends to end up, but good god is it fun to shoot. There really is none other to it. For you, I suggest a KWA gun. Those guns are about $100-120 USD, and are basically workhorses. Full metal slide too. I suggest the KWA USP .45. My favorite gun from the USP series. If you can't afford em, save up. I also advise you to check out arniesairsoft.co.uk -> Great airsoft website with info, based in the UK. ESPECIALLY check up in the forums about the Violence bill, good to know about your laws.

If you like a spring gun, make sure it's a high quality one. I prefer the UTG MK23, shoots about 140 feet after the hop-up is broken in, and comes with 2 mags, a metal silencer for $25 USD...
