Yes, many people use english on the forums as a second language, which is why I typically don't bother getting into grammar discussions. You, however, are not one of these people. So, when you type like you're in junior high it definitely makes you seem lazy and ignorant and invalidates any valid points you may bring to the discussion. Your text is the only way people on the forums can get a sense of your personality, so if you wish to be taken seriously, then type seriously.wicked289 wrote:
i completely agree with u that sum ppl seem ignorant, but a lot of those ppl r from different countries where english isnt their first language. all im saying is lay off a little, but if u feel u must correct them, try to be more polite.
ya dude, the whole reason i brought this up is cuz in correcting u, he was very rude and pretty much acted like a dick. if ppl r going to correct others, theres no reason to call the person names or anything^DD^GRiPS wrote:

omg, i cant stand reading ppl always criticizing someones typing or spelling. does it rlly bother you that much? this is an online forum, not a college journalism class, lay off. especially when the guy asks a question (not saying this topic is a question), hes usually not asking for u to correct his typing so either post sumthing usefull/helpfull that relates to their question. i kno im no better cuz this is completely off topic too, but i just couldnt take reading another post with sumone correcting sum1 elses grammar. FLAME AWAY
I wonder why Chuy made the search HUGE in comparison to other toolbar features.....hmmmm.
Listen to him, he is absolutely right and.....ttF-voodoochild wrote:

the reason i type with abbreviations is cuz im not trying to spend a lot of time typing. i dont see it as a necessity when u can obviously read it fine. ill admit im not an expert typer so when i do type in forums or in instant messages i just try to get the sentence over quickly without rlly checking over my typing. in school ill use spellcheck and all that other stuff, but this is not school, this is a GAME forum. lazy yes, ignorant no.tF-voodoochild wrote:

i didn't call him names. his title says 'american hillbilly', so naturally he shouldn't take offense to that.wicked289 wrote:

if you'll notice, i never make fun of foreigners for trying to speak english. in fact, i give them a ton of credit just for trying to learn one of the harder languages in the world. it's very easy to tell who has difficulty speaking a language because he's foreign or if he's just ignorant or lazy.
yes, i am a dick and i'll fully admit to that. sorry, but the admins wouldn't allow "i am a dick" as my forum title.
i took no offense i just had retorts for your witisisms. no harm done.ThomasMorgan wrote:

Believe me, I dont sit here and mull over my posts for twenty minutes before posting them, I just type proper sentences the first time and correct any mistakes I make immediately. Take ten extra seconds out of your life and people online will take you much more seriously.wicked289 wrote:

So... anyway, yeah, use the search
ok my bad, i didnt take the time to realize that his title was american hillbilly (my laziness), but saying "fuck search, use a dictionary. maybe take some english classes." is just gunna make him get defensive and as u can see, we have a whole topic about it. but im just gunna stop now cuz im coming out of this looking like a "bad guy" for just trying to get ppl to lay off a bit. i have nthn against ne of u, so hopefully this wont affect ne future topics or posts.
It would be more productive and helpful for someone to use the search button to find a post that's already been written, instead of wasting bandwidth and site space for a post that's already been discussed.
I actually agree with the initial statement. I have seen some topics that cover things that have been covered before, but that I havn't seen.
Even though it's not cool to keep adding the same topic multiple times, telling someone to use the search as the main point in their post dosn't help anything. the post is there, and more than likely will be shut down later by Chuy, Voodoo, Trigger, B.Schuss, NM156 or one of the other mods, (can you tell I'm reading this off the wiki page.)
I'm guilty of doing this, but in retrospect I was just being an admin-wannabe arsehole. Sorry to whoever it was.
Still, use search.

gentlemen, please. Being the only german mod here, I reserve the right to be the only official "grammar nazi"...
type what you like, as long as I can understand what you are saying you won't hear any bad words from me. After all, English ain't my first language either. Nevertheless, if your choice of words and spelling/grammar/punctuation makes it impossible for me to understand you, I will point that out to you.
As far as the original question is concerned, I have no troubles answering to a specific question ( given I know the answer myself ). I'll acknowledge that it is usually faster and more convenient to give the answer directly instead of simply telling the guy to use the search.
But please don't expect me to do your work for you. Although I have been around the forums a while, I don't remember every thread ever posted and I don't have all the answers ready. accordingly, if I happen not to know the answer to a specific question I will ask you to use the search or check the FAQ / Wiki because that is exactly what I would have to do myself...
btw, darth, that picture made me laugh so hard I nearly fell off my office chair....
