I prefer the F2000, due to the higher shot power. The L85 takes 10 rounds to get a kill at 50 meters, the F2000 two. And I can do splash damage.
The F2000 takes 3 hits.

The G3 also takes 3 (4 for armour, while F2000 takes 5 for armour), but is less accurate after 2 shots than an AK 47.

That's what the STATS say, yes. But under battlefield conditions, the F2000 requires only a single short burst, while the L86 takes two or even three.

To use the L85 you need luck, plain and simple. With the G36E you don't need luck because it is accurate, so you can get on with improving actual skills like quick reactions and effective movement.
LOL! you need experiance with guns other than the G36E, after using the 36e you cant use anything else effectively, i went through a phase were i used the 36e, and it was just soooooo boring it was the same thing over and over again- Prone, click click click...kill, heal, prone click click click....kill, heal.
The L85 takes no luck, you've just used the 36e too long and now you cant use any guns that require more than Prone, click click click...kill, heal, prone click click click....kill, heal.

I can only use the L85A1 on single shot from long range effectively, say Wake. I only use in close quaters when I run out of ammo and theres an enemy there. Grab dead guys L85 and open up from prone, standing means I'll miss every shot from about three feet away.

I dunno about the L85. Some rounds i use it and do great, other rounds i use it and cant hit a thing. Which is why i never use it. Basically.

I envy all of you who can use it.

I cannot, use, that, gun, for shit. I can't shoot with it. I just can't... whatever i aim at, it doesn't hit it. It hits everything else. But the enemy.

Its an awesome gun, time and time again i get picked off across the map by it, but I CANNOT, USE IT, FOR SHIT. I have tried, time and time again. I have been forced to try by somehow getting revived with an L85A1 in my hands, and been forced to use it (always unsuccessfully), against immediate enemy. I wish i could use, it, but I can't.

however, instead of the L85A1, i hae become accustomed to the G3. Now that is a some serious shit.

my experience with the l85a1 is to be 'sketchy' with it, random shit just happens with that weapon. up close on full burst it just works, single shot for most other stuff. when ur firing at enemys at a medium distance, its sometimes best not to be too accurate, as you may be with a 36e or an m16. i find small bursts and aiming at different points over the targets work best. just try it, it may take a while but you will be pleased once you know you can use it, when my 36e is spent and i have no handy support guy and i pick up someones kit and its the l85, i dont mind too much now.

Would anybody want a full, well-written guide on how to master the L85 from the guy who pioneered the art of L85 pwnage? It just takes alot of patience to learn but I'm willing to bet that with the right settings everyone can be quite effective with it. Getting the gun to hit consistently has alot to do with:

1.)The length of your bursts and how you fire the gun scoped/unscoped and at different ranges.
2.)Your mouse. A Laser mouse is the best, the more resolution the better.
3.) Your in-game sensitivity settings and your windows mouse sensitivity settings (I'll explain both of these if enough people care for a guide)
4.) Of course your ping and framerate. The lower your ping is the better with this gun. Usually a stable ping ranging anywhere from 20-60 will get you good results. If its near 100 it will still get the job done but you have to compensate for delay and expect those phantom nonregistering hits.

If anyone is interested I can explain all these factors in more detail and potentially change the opinion of anyone who thinks this gun is too inconsistent. I will convince you that its one of the most consistent guns in the game, at least for me.

I love the L85. I would normally choose it over AK101, but I just hate the AK. I use M16 when USMC and L85 when MEC.

The L85 takes awhile to get used to, but the effort is well worth it.

I use it over the m16 when I have to clear a squad out.

I enjoy the Cqc fighting style in bf2. I rarely engage from long range and crouch at middle range but at close range I just go around them faster then they can move their mouses.

I can't use it for shit, I try shooting it, but the bullets just seem to be attracted to the moon or some shit and go flying off into the sky. Then it gets really frustrating to have it one-shot kill me a bunch of times from the same guy or just random people.

argh... I just plain suck with the gun..

It's not as annoying as the G36E though, but that's another story

This thread has a link to a movie I made, and the first half or so contains some good L85 shots (but I ditched the gun after running out of ammo =(  ).  Maybe it'll help to see how someone else uses the gun.

Yeah, cos an unreliable gun is what every pro wants! The G36E is a great gun, thats why people use it. Why bother using something inferior? I'd rather play with a gun that rewards quick reaction times by landing shots on target than sit there 20' away from someone, proned and scoped, shooting right at their head with a whole clip without a single shot landing. To use the L85 you need luck, plain and simple. With the G36E you don't need luck because it is accurate, so you can get on with improving actual skills like quick reactions and effective movement.
The thing is that when I play on a full 64 player (lets say Sharqui) server, and i play with an M16, and i beat the lieutenant Gen. who is using a 36E (in kills), it feels %@&*ing good.
I used to get pissed off with the 36E killing me. Now i just laugh. Pathetic gun anyone can use.

Its far more rewarding to master a gun that NOT everyone can use.
Like the L85.

L85 is awesome, just have to know how to use it and be able to switch it's uses quickly, single shot = no sniper is safe, I HS em all the time, prone or whatever, also great for parachuters! Auto, its Awesome at medium to short range, the farther away, the shorter your bursts, best gun in the game!

the same could be said for the AK and the AK101, both of which i have mastered.

Alright, two interested people is enough for me to commit to writing an extensive guide on how to master this gun. All I ask for is a bit of patience since it will be a lengthy post and I have other things going on right now.

The MG36 was another understood gun. Before 1.41 I couldn't do anything with it, now I'm getting medals with 0 team points. I think the secret to the MG36 is the long rage 3 shot burst.
