Um. Russia overtook Saudi Arabia as the world's leading Oil and Gas producing country. I think the loss of Chechnya would not have even dented their production numbers any.

Edit: If you want my opinion on why Chechnya happened, it was Russia's way of showing that a bunch of gun toting Muslims couldn't rest control of a region from them.

We need a few satellite based railguns orbitting to shoot down incoming ICBM's, but this whole situation sounds like it could get out of hand real fast if we're not careful.

Relax.  Either this is going to be a revival of the cold war, or it will die down in a couple of months.  Most likely the latter.

im not defending russia or chechnya, thats not my concern.  but regardless, i cant support any organization that feels that it is necessary to abduct and make hostage a bunch regular civilians going out to the theater.  and the russian govt was even daffier in their handling of that situation.
