I had the exact same problem. What you can do is tap F8 i think or F9 or F10 at startup which takes you to system recovery.

not very helpful, not all computers ahve the recovery option from startup, only dell and hp have it i think.

Mine used to do it, then i did the system recovery thing.

I put it down to a Windows media player update, never downloaded it again and now it works.
