Thanks!

I guess I'm quite lucky having my parents paying for insurance and lessons.

I don't need a car quite yet though...I can borrow my mum's for the moment!

I'd drive you around anyday Scotty

New Question

Do I:

3) Buy a Zalman CNPS9500.

@TheEternalPessimist I looked at the Thermalright coolers and they are very nice, however for £47 + the cost of a 120mm fan....slightly overbudget. I would also have to take my side panel fan off my case for it to fit.
I don't see much of a need. Stock keeps it cool and is quiet. I think it is more of a gimmick than anything. If your processor were to overheat, I would think more about what the case is doing for airflow first.

In my particular case I have a 120mm fan in the back of the case even with the processor and a 120mm  on top even with the processor. Both run slow speed so they aren't loud. It makes goos airflow because there is a 120mm in the front pushing the air to the back fan, so air flows over the processor.

What if I'm thinking of OC'ing?

(The thermalright ultra 120 is too big to fit in my case without removing a fan in the case).

tbh I don't run it up. I "pseudo overclocked it" (to 2.93) using an auto-overlcok  function of the motherboard, the tempuraure rose, but not by much - yet noticeable gains in 3dmark.

The main point I'm trying to make is the biggest heat sink in the world is poinless without good airflow n the case. You can find arguments in both directions for the zalman. For me it seemed pointless ... but thats only my opinion

Fair point.

That discounts the Tuniq.

My room gets very hot and my stock cooler wont fit on my new motherboard so I have to get one.

meh, this is stupid advice. If you OC seriously, you will need to raise the Vcore. Once you change that you will need something better than the stock HSF, unless you want to have serious overheat problems. No amount of airflow will change that. AFAIK the airflow in the alienware cases is actually decent.

James, I sent the guys at OCers an email the other day and they say they'll be bringing the Tuniq back in stock soon.

Oooo thanks alot!

I've just measured in my case though...and I'd have to take out my side fan.

So I'm trying to decide between....

Do I:

1) Wait for the Tuniq to get back in stock.

2) Buy an Asus Silent Knight.

3) Buy a Zalman CNPS9500.

4) Buy a different one (please specify). [<£40]

... which is too expensive. So the first option, as you probably don't like the push-pin system of a Scythe Infinity for a cooler that weighs more than 900 grams...

The Noctua is supposed to be a bitch to install, and the Thermalright isn't coming back in stock according to that.

Nonsense?

It comes with all parts you'd need for any contemporary socket, has extra holes where you can put through the screwdriver to fasten it and the backplate procedure is almost always the same. Plus it's got the best manual you could imagine. I bet you've never owned a Noctua product and seen an installation guide from them, though...

If you've got good airflow in your case (at least one 120mm fan in the front and back) then I'd go for the Thermalright Ultra-120. Nothing can touch it on performance. If you dont want that then I'd go for the Noctua NH-U12F. Its got the huuuge fan on it and can keep your OC'd CPU pretty cool.

James, you are putting up your old parts on ebay you say?
What are the parts?
As you can see, I am getting very desperate for something to "revive" my computer.
PM me your links. Pweasee.

I apologise, but I must hate you for having such a sexual setup. Compared to my 1GHZ CPU, onboard gfx and 256MB of RAM.

Let me expand. I am not getting anything. I have no computer. I have no money. I have no parts.
I forgot to add that in at the end of the topic.
