windows not recognizing my keyboard....

hi,

I am using the on screen keyboard now cuz my keyboard ( which i've had for a year now ) suddenly died THis morning. it says '' windows does not reccognize this device''

sum1 plz help me

sry for bad grammer but the on screen keyboard is VERY annoying!

Unplug the keyboard, open task manager (Start, Control Panel, System, Device Manager, find the keyboard, right click, uninstall, turn off computer, plug in keyboard, turn on computer.

What keyboard? Brand? Model?

Try booting into safe mode (F8 at start up). If it works there it means the keyboard driver isnt working. So you will need to reinstall it.

Also, Start > Control Panel > Keyboard > Hardware --- Is it there? What does it say? (In classic view btw).

Try them and post back.

alright KARMA KILLS.

I am in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING RIGHT NOW and my keyboard works fine I am typing with it now. Why would it work here and not in regular XP

btw when I go to devices, I find nothing under keyboard even with it plugged in ( this is on normal XP )

when I go to devices in SAFE MODE it says that I have a HID KEYBOARD and it is working properly

type of keyboard is just a normal dell one

its what i did with you earlier

Try updating/ rolling back the driver using device manager.....

Ok, Safe Mode uses generic drivers - aka standard ones.

This shows us that the problem is the specific keyboard driver, from Dell it seems.

Try going to Start > Right click My Computer > Hardware > Device Manager and see if you can see an Exclamation Mark by anything.

If not go to the Keyboard in Device Manager and unsinstall the driver (or Roll Back) as hopefully this will take it back to the generic (working driver).

If all else fails, try System Restore.
