get none with g-mail
but used to get ~20 day back on my hotmail account, but i had had that for 2 years, signing up for countless things along the way

Tell your mum to stop registering with porn sites lol
We've just got a new thing here in Australia, where you can register your phone number as a "do not call" number, and call centres aren't allowed to call the numbers that are registered (lol about a million people registered in the first 24 hours of it starting). I wish we could have something like that for email...

Get Mozilla Thunderbird....
I get about 2-5 spam messages a week.
Oh forgot to mention, you can import your address book to Thunderbird so you won't loose them.

Back a while ago when Gmail was Invite-only, i got an account. I never used this account, and still to this day its been logged into no more then 10 times. Anyways, things that required email addresses for sign-ups that i didn't want to use my real email for, i would use the gmail email. Now, i only did this maybe 5 times in the life of this account. The account has been alive for maybe like a year so far, and i never check into it, but the spam filter seems to be on high cause when i logged in a week ago this is what i saw:

Yeah... look at how many emails are in the spam folder and i only used the account a few times at a few sites... GHEY!

EDIT: Shit never mind I thaught the spam filter was in the free version.
Though it is very cheap if you do want to buy it.

Switch to gmail or run a spam filter plug-in on top of outlook.
I recommend SpamAssassin. A very good open source anti-spam algorithm.

Software anti-spam solution is quite good, however, hardware or 3rd party Spam hosting is better. A really really good hardware solution is AutumnTech.

Tell your mom to not click on advertisement banners, or open website links that come in spam messages in her e-mail. Some of those spam messages come with a link that unsubscribes you from their database, try that out. Other than that you could open a new e-mail account or suffer that constant barrage of spam :\.
Unsubscribe. Register to hotmail addresses etc so you don't get spammed!
