First, off I would like to say that, when It comes to tech, I have NO idea what I am doing. Second of all don't flame me for choosing dell, i bought this PC two years ago, and I was wondering whether I made the right choice. All I know is that I have a GeForce 6800 in it. But initally It wasn't for gaming, or BF2 and Ibought BF2 afterwards.

*Can someone tell me how to find and post specs please?

Did I make the right choice in choosing the Dell XPS GEN 5?

I bought my PC from dell as well, 2 years ago. I have 6800 as well, lol. Anyway, you can enter your service tag @ dell's website and you get the whole specification...

Well thats weird... That Cpuid is saying that I only have  one core, when my PC is a dual core.

XPS gen 5 came with P4 HT CPUs, they arn't dual core.

If your's is a stock Gen 5 then it's just a P4 HT, HT (Hyper Threading) makes it show up as 2 cores when in fact it is only one core acting like 2, it's hard to explain

Though you're not getting two CPUs for the price of one, it might look like you do, at least as far as the OS is concerned. Although there is only one physical CPU, the OS sees two logical processors.

If they sold it to you saying it was a proper Dual core system, with 2 physical cores then yes they lied to you. The whole Hyperthreading thing got totally confused at the time of release and a lot of people got mislead because of retailers using dumbass statements like "Gives you the performance of 2 cores" when it doesn't at all.

EDIT:

Run belarc (I linked it earlier) and post the first page of the report (screenie will do), just to make sure it's deffinatly not dual core, I seem to remember HT being used on some dual core CPUs.

yea ht is dual core.  I have a old computer with a p4 ht.  Only game that works pretty well with ht is quake 4.
