A modded Freelancer server. Timmah's right, it isn't a true MMO, but you can count it as a sort of "Diablo in Space" genre.
That pathetic piece of work is a bad copy of Ascendancy and Galactic Civilizations, not an "MMO clone."Darkhelmet wrote:

Yeah, my recommendation is to stay away from EVE Online for the time being. No matter what else you do.
Apparently some group called Band of Brothers is going around whining to admins via MSN.

Yay!
Theres something called 'Space Cowboy' which is sort of a cross between Starfox (old n64 game) and a RPG. It's free to download & play.
does it have joystick support?Idlewild wrote:

You can legally torrent it.
Freelancer is still commercial property, and available for $9 in a jewel case: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. … id=5614664
Not only does it allow servers to host their own persistent universes, it allows application of mods, and has a single-player mode (which is great fun on a laptop for long trips). Its flight control system is so intuitive that my grandma was able to get the hang of it after five minutes of goofing around.
Say what you want about Wal-Mart, but I've found games there that weren't available anywhere else (but random stores in the UK).

Freelancer, best space game I've played/still playing lol.
Buy it/torrent it whatever, it's still good, and very easy to make mods for it Once you get a little know-how
cough * 24/7 pitchblack 2 server* cough

Freelancer is great... but once you realize there is nothing to do other than take missions, fly to waypoint, kill, take another mission... you may want to give EVE online a shot. Freelancer looks 1000x better than EVE, but EVE has 1000x more depth and versatility that Freelancer ever had.
Freelancer has a better feel than EVE, but I couldn't say it has better graphics. Freelancer is...free.JovesApples wrote:
