imagine... You're going to buy a new system. Intel C2D, nVidia 8800GT possibly upgrade to SLi etc... But what northbridge would it be on your motherboard? And please leave a good reason for your vote, and if you vote "Others", please post what manufacturer/model you're referring to.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

nvidia seems to do better than most of those, I have had VIA and SiS, both drivers were dated and flawed. :<

I am on the 975x, and love it! Although I would go for a 680i now.

For SLI an 680i, if you don't need it (and planning on SLI always means that you'll never get it as by that time a single GPU will already have outpowered your possible SLI config) a P35 chipset.

Personally i have a 956P board in the form of a gigabyte DS3, but i have also heard good things about the 680i chipset.

Either 680i or wait and see how P35 does.

Erh. Well no. Even the P965 comes up to 550MHz FSB. P35 isn't really worse ;-)
Generally, it's not the boards limiting the FSB anyways - as long as you get a decent cooler for your northbridge.

P35 can go to 600mhz FSB, P965 can only go to 550mhz if lucky enough, but generally 500mhz max for most boards, but 680i goes up till 550mhz.

How come the Gigabyte DS3 (even this one!) goes up to 700? Of course you can't really have them, but you're not that far away...
