Uh is there actually anything other than WD/Seagate/Maxtor?

Oh and don't listen to anyone about WD/Seagate/Maxtor reliability, its all the same. They're just sore they got the 1 in 100 that failed and swore death upon the company.

I bought a "Maxtor Personal Storage 3200" which is 500GB a few weeks ago for roughly €100 (160 AUD if I did the conversion right)
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I have a Western Digital MyBook 400gb, was filled within a month. I only paid $90 for it though(black friday sale at Staples).

It's a bit loud when the drives spun up but whisper quiet when not in use. It looks nice too. If I had it all to do again I'd probably get one of those 1 TB ones with the network jack for like $300.

That's the idea. You buy one of them, buy a regular internal and put it inside it. Same thing.

As Cheez noticed yes that is just a harddrive case and what you do it either use old drives you have lying around or buy cheap sata or IDE drives to put in them, I now have 4 of these with 250gb drives in them

My dad has had three Maxtor hard drives in a row completely crash within a year each. That's great if his experience is the exception but I personally would never use a Maxtor drive as a result. (His weren't external though.)

I had the same problem, my maxtor crashed. Got another one, it crashed... its replacement crashed. Last ones been good for a year or so, only had to go through 3 drives to get a working one. Their warranty replacement drives are drives that have been refurbished I guess. I think the last one they gave me was a new one because I bitched so much, their RMA takes 2 weeks minimum, hell even the time I paid a deposit so they'd send a replacement out faster took 7-10 days.

I wouldn't ever buy a maxtor again to say the least.
