BF2S Forums Is Emo the new lifestyle?

Trent Reznor, lead singer of Nine Inch Nails, has said he cannot stand anything to do with the whole Emo culture. It's for kids and young teenagers, even the bands themselves eventually grow out of it.

I know a few "real" emos. Their clothes and make-ups etc. are awful and ridiculous. The music is ridiculous too.

What's emotional hardcore music? Surely they don't consider Good Charlotte or My Chemical Romace wailing tales of their failed childhoods/lovelife/life into a microphone 'hardcore' do they?

I was tolerant-ish of the Emo culture until New Years 2007 where at Cuba Mall in Wellington I saw a large group of Emos crying in a corner when the clock struck midnight. A group of them got together for a cry. On one of the drinking-est paty nights of the year they were crying, and why? Because that was their way of ushering in the New Year. By crying. Over nothing.

Ridiculous.

I remember shaming an Emo at the Vic campus. There's an old cemetary there, old headstones whathaveyou, all comemorating old professors or exceptional alumni. Every day I got off at four, (Monday, Wednesday and Friday,) I'd see this Emo guy in the cemetary taking to a tombstone. I didn't know what the fuck he was doing but eventually curiosity got the best and I stayed back a bit to hear what he was saying. Turns out he was talking to the dead guy in the grave, telling him his thoughts, addressing him by his name, (William, otherwise knwon as Dr. William Turnpike,) just chatting. Said goodbye afterwards too.
I guess talking to dead people is very Emo-shiq, I think it's just an expression of "I have no friends, wah!"

So he left old William and so I decided to walk with him and inform him of the history of that cemetary. Went something like this.
Ty: "Hey, who were you talking to back there, some guy called William?"
Emo: "What? Oh yeah, he's my friend."
T: "Really? Why did he stay back in the cemetary."
E: "...mumble..."
T: "Sorry?"
E: "He's dead. He's buried there."
T: "Oh I'm sorry..."
*pause*
T: "Wait he's buried there?"
E: "Yes."
T: "Um... so he's what, like your great grandfather?"
E: "No, he's just someone I talk to and he's buried there."
*pause*
T: "...Does he talk back?"
E: (I kid you not,) "Sometimes..."
T: "Really? Wow that's something..."
*pause*
T: "You do realise that that cemetary has been vacant for coming on fifty years now. They dug up the caskets and re-buried them at the Bolton Street Cemetary."
E: "What?"
T: "Yeah, they just keep the headstones on University ground to commemorate the people."
E: "Oh."
T: "Yeah so William might not be able to hear you."
E: "Uh huh..."
*at this point the subject became terribly interested with something in his pocket. He then stopped, turned around and went back the way he came. Not so much as a goodbye.*
T: "Bye then."

I probably ruined his life, but at least he's got something realistic to be miserable about now.

Actually now that I think about it I feel really bad about doing that.

If that was a literal quote from the magazine, I must say that magazine sucks.

My Fiance and I used to torment some emo's on her college campus sometimes.  A big group of them (you know how they travel in packs) used to always hog the big table at the coffee shop.  Not to drink coffee but to cry and talk about how bad life is.  Nevermind the fact that they are going to a catholic private college that isn't just real easy to get into, the fact they have a free place to live with no bills and more than likely a free ride.  But they still want to have their cry, pathetic.  So one day we finally said enough of this shit and we picked the table closest to them.  We sat and listened to them for a minute and then my fiancee busts out....

Emo: Dr. Livingston is such a fag, like he wouldn't give me a good grade in Biology and stuff because he said "I didn't work hard enough", total asshole.
Jacki (speaking to me slightly loud): OMG, Dr. Livingston just gave me an A in Biology!!!  I didn't even study or go to class last tuesday!!  He's so awesome! 

Emo's suddenly get quite..

The look on my face, the look on the emo's face and the look on the guy reading the newspaper one seat over, was fucking priceless.  Although, it was all lies.  We would never go see a fag bad like AFI and she will never give me a threesome.  Still, she fucking owned those idiots.

I have made a few mistakes thinking that emo´s are goth´s and vice versa I resolved it by just calling them all EGO (Emo goth)   and i do belive that wiggas are a far greater threat to society than emos

I honestly don't understand wigga's ...I don't think any musical genre should be confined to one race and white people liking rap/hip hop etc. is fine but why would someone try to act like a stereotype of another race?

edit: and to clarify: rock grunge metal and the like are not emo. The Doors, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica etc etc are NOT emo. period.
