i think we should organize everything like in the real marines. ya know with company commanders and stuff like that
my thought
NO
NO
actually, the january edition of Computer Gaming World mentions something to that degree. it'll be a virtual MMO called Tour of Duty.
As great as it would be having squads that actually work together and people that are specialized in infantry, armor and aviation, the community for this game is largely too selfish to act toward a team goal and operate in the capacity as a disciplined fighting force.
The only way to circumvent this aspect is to join a squad that operates together or a clan that actually knows team tactics. Sadly, I have yet to find a clan that might do this, and the only person I can count on in-game is my friend LongShot99. We our both servicemen and know how to watch each other's back.
The elitist attitude that I have encountered makes it hard for many in the game to give up personal stats in lieu of a team win. Hence, it is impossible to set any actual rank and file that would work. Nice idea though killer.

I agree somewhat. Its a cultural change issue, game cutlure that is. The genres' previous boundaries are becoming blurred.
I think people coming from single component shooter games who stick with BF2s Joint/Combined arms game will adjust to it fine. People who are experienced strategy gamers such as myself cannot comprehend terms like armor/jet whore!!! lol We are used to working with all the toys out there. I am already specializing in Armor just like all those Infantry Whores are specializing in Infantry.
The next round of hybrid or combo fps/rts games should find painless ways to get people to work together for success and advancement. People who lone wolf or join squads and never work in that squad should not receive promotions. No one should be promoted to Seargeant with less than 30+ hours of squad leader time, etc etc. And the ranks from NCO to Officer shouldn't be linear, I know it happens but I'll bet there are less than 1:10,000 soldiers who progressed through all enlisted ranks to Senior NCO and then went to 2LT!!! I knew two who did this from Plt Sgt and 1st Sgt but never SMG, Sergeants Major are too invested in the NCO corps to take a downgrade to 2LT and they are right.
The path to Lieutenant and beyond should be throught he hours of sucsesful Command and other data that could be isolated for command credit.
