is my CPU slow?

ok so i just reinstalled BF2 and am patching it now but its at 19% so far and it has taken 20mins!
im just wondering if all my probs are that my CPU is on its way out or is just running slow for some reason?
its hanging around at 15% to 50% CPU useage.

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1536MB RAM

mmmhm, well it's probably the object_client.zip thing that takes ages, it usually goes faster after you passed that big one, but still it shouldn't take 20 minutes for 20% with those settings I think. Did you removed all unnecessary crap on the background?

Shouldn't take that long, that CPU is far from great but it's not that terrible either.

Whats the rest of your rig specs?

Look in the game manual about background tasks. I had to do that just to install the thing.

i know it far far from great i just need it running for a few more weeks till i sort out my order for a new custom rig.
(and when i have it i sticking this one on the bonfire and dancing around it)

It's probably your antivirus scanner that's causing the slowdown, as it has to scan each file as it's being written to your HD.

i was just wondering if my CPU could be the reason for overall game play being poor and lagy and setting having to fall to a min and still be bad.

yeah that happens with me aswell. The *.zip files take ages. I just leave it and go do something else. Takes me about an hour lol.
I don't really mind just find something to do.

O yeah and my specs are
Intel pentium 4
512mb RAM
nVidia fx5200

I've got an AthlonXP 3200+ and it also takes an eon to patch.

If it's not made any progress in say an hour, then it's probably an issue, otherwise, as petermassingale suggests - go do summat else whilst it 'thinks'...
