To the guy who asked why the diff. branches bust on each other.........Well, it's always been that way, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if/when the shit hits the fan, we are there for them, and they are there for us.

I did some time in the Marine Corps (Scout Sniper) among other things, and I've got to tell you........it was probably the best thing I could have done for myself.  It doesn't really matter which branch you serve in..............people will still respect the fact that you served your country.  Remember, everybody has a choice here in the U.S., and if you decide to go w/ the military, you need to be prepared for whatever they throw at you.

Good luck, and Semper Fi

Think carefully about your decision.

Personally i wish i had the guts to have joined back in 1989 when i was fresh out of high school.  i would have been forced to grow up faster and it would have squared me away much quicker.  I ended up going the college route and feel that i'm successful.  However, had i gone the military route, i would still be successful when i got out AND have so much experience to look back upon AND have the proud feeling that i served my country.

I look upon serving in the military as an honorable choice.  Go for it if you think it's for you.

good luck!

Its not really serious
but I'm highly considering it
Don't be a grunt..you will end up like me.

Now don't go talking dude out of the Grunts...It is really the only job in the Corps that matters.  I did my four and it was a life changing experience.

Anybody here with military background give me some details (training, front lines, etc.)
If it was me, I'd join the Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard (lololol CG).

The Coast Guard has the 2nd hardest boot camp behind the Marines. That and prior service still has to go through boot camp again.

Thats what I am doing and I would recommend it.  I'm USMCR currently but shipping out to the Platoon Leaders' Course for the Corps in early July trying to earn my commision as an Officer.  I love the Corps, even as a reservist.  I'm actually being given more opportunities as a dirty reserve then I would as active duty currently.  As an E-3 I am qualifying on pistols because as part of the Anti-Terrorism Bn I rate one, something that doesn't usually happen until a Marine is E-6.  I also appear to being taken into a STA (pre scout sniper) platoon and if so I will have school seat avaliable practically 100% guarenteed.  Add on top that I have the GI Bill (only a 10k one sense I haven't been active duty for over 12 months so no kickers) and an officer's stipend after the first six week course of the PLC college is a lot more affordable now.

But then there are times when I am dealing with two jobs, 16 credits, a relationship, my Officer selection office, and my reserve unit that I wish I had just gone active.

Just remember it all looks cool on video but they don't show you the reality that when you burst into that room with your buddies you could die at any second.

basically military propaganda just makes the military look cool. Shooting big guns Killing things. When really you'd have you work cut out, being shot at, the possibility of having your best mate blown to bits.

Yeah. I'm sure you can meet some honest recruiters, but their job is to get people to join. Saying "Well a lot of time when you're not deployed is spent shooting the shit, and when you're deployed you could get killed" doesn't net a lot of people.

I know I'm not falling for the propaganda
Ive just wanted to serve since my grandpa served in WWII

I know its gonna be hard, i know I'm gonna lose some of my friends.
But that's reality but its better to serve for your country then to be a waste of space

not if you have a good platoon and you in a good section
its not like if you get deployed you definately gona see some action.
Many soldiers come back and they havent been in a firefight during thiere whole tour.

but from what i hear the marines are the way to go if you wana be a grunt in the US war machine.
Is it still all volenteers? (the marines)

i was a grunt (duh 0311), and really liked what i did, but there isn't many jobs out there for a trained killer.  if you join the MARINES or any branch, get a billet that you can turn into a career in the real world.

Or get a job in the military that you can spend the rest of your life with, though, if you have already found someone that you are planning to spend your life with(Im guessing you haven't since you are probably 15 or 16)then you want to follow h&d's advice.
