Less than 24 hours after his dramatic high-speed accident in Canada, BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica has been discharged from hospital. Kubica drove himself away from Montreal’s Hospital du Sacre Coeur on Monday, after he received the all clear from doctors.
The 22 year-old was treated for a light concussion and a sprained ankle after the incident, which was caused when the Pole's BMW Sauber collided with the rear of Jarno Trulli’s Toyota on Lap 27 of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.
“I have no pain and feel well,” he explained. “I want to thank everyone for the medical attention I received and for all the good wishes. Mario Theissen and other team members came to visit me and also thanks to Jarno Trulli who came as well. I am happy that I have been able to leave the hospital so quickly and will now prepare for the race in Indianapolis.”
Kubica, however, will have to wait until Thursday to get the official green light to race at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. He will undergo further checks by the FIA medical delegate before BMW Sauber announces its driver line-up for the Indianapolis event.
