EA can not fix this for the following reasons:

EA does not control the major internet backbones that your ISP connects to.
Savvis changed something on their network that has unfortunately affected the BF2/2142 service on their network
Your GSP typically purchases bandwidth from a single provider that "blends" many Tier 1 internet backbone providers into one backbone for maximum redundancy. Your ISP chooses which of those connections to transit to your server.

Solution?

I recommend that you contact your GSP and explain to them the issues - use this forum post as a reference - open a trouble ticket with them. Your GSP will then need to apply upward pressure on the provider of their services to "blackhole" savvis traffic (which is VERY hard to get them to do). If your GSP is unable to put enough pressure on their provider, your only recourse is to switch to a different GSP who doesn't have SAVVIS in their BGP mix in the city that you are purchasing your service from. Keep in mind that MANY GSP's use Savvis somewhere in the nation - this is a big fat hairy nightmare for the end user (thanks SAVVIS) and EA can't do anything about it because it isn't their fault.

I hope this helps....
Even though that might be the answer, I agree, EA should have been on this to get their customers back and playing there games & reading in game ads Asap.

EA has never given a shit before why should they now. They dont fix their games, they release patches to make them 100 times worse.

My guess is that this game bf2/BF2142 pushes your PC's to the edge of being able to handle/ process all the damn windows updates, evergrowing harddrives, etc etc and all it takes is time for many pc's with the same near-terminal capabilities to crap out!  For many it may have been the new map. Hell the PC industry loves games like BF2 which is complex compaired to other games so we in the real world are forced to open our wallets and EA/ Dice just weather the storm untill we do.  Where else are we gonna turn?  No one else is coming up with a great game with stats and ranks!

I'm getting this freezing problem as well when i try to join or refresh certain servers .The game completely freeze for a few minutes before coming back to normal. It seems to be worse if i change account or quit and rejoin the game.It wasn't present prior to the 1.04 patch.

In any case it's not like it's a game breaking bug (well at least not for me) , it's just that it can be very annoying.

I don't see the problem here. This isn't EA's fault, as they said. If you buy a car that only runs on diesel, is it the car manufacturers responsibility to ensure you can buy diesel fuel at your favorite gas station? No. You as the consumer have that responsibility. If you can't get diesel at that station, go to another one that has it. In this case, if your ISP uses this Savvis connection, you cancel your account and tell them why. Then you go find another one that doesn't use it and get back to gaming.

In this case i think it is.I have a very good connection and PC and the problem was only introduced in patch 1.04 (at least for me).I never had this issue before so i seriously doubt that it's because my ISP suddenly started to suck........

I've never had the problem and I've been on since 1.02. My comp at the time was total crap too. That patch may have increased the bandwidth that BF2 needed, which pushed your ISP over its limitation due to this Savvis deal. In that case, it's still not EA's problem.

What do you want EA to acknowledge, that a service provider that is not part of their company has a hardware or routing problem?  There is nothing EA can do, it is a problem with the ISP providing the server.  It is not a software problem.  This is an issue that can only be resolved by contacting your host and raising hell.  EA is not going to jump down the throat of the server host or the ISP that host is using.  It is not an EA issue, therefore their support staff will not comment and probably are not suppose to comment.

Ok so EA is supposed to do nothing? Just sit idle and not even recognize there is a problem? If indeed the ISP is to blame it would be nice forEA/DICE to let us know for sure. I have talked to the folks at savvis and as for as they are concerned nothing has changed on their end since last weekend. So until someone from EA issues a response at least letting us know whats going on what are we supposed to do? I understand it is not there responsibility to make sure I have a solid connection, but if both my ISP and the routing company are saying nothing has change where else are we supposed to look?

So the ISP and the routing company are saying nothing has changed, What do you think has changed on EA's end.  The last patch was a while ago, and it doesn't apear to be an issue logging into their server, if the issue is isolated to specific servers that you play on, then you need to continue to press the server host, even to the point of demanding a refund and moving to another host.  There are things that are out of EA's control and they are not going to take the time to comment on posts that do not address issues with their products.  That is where forums like these are usefull.  You do have other options besides waiting on EA for a solution.  Now if you want to tell me your problem happens on all servers, does not matter if you are using your DSL/Cable or playing from a cafe and it generally affect 90% of the populous intermitently, I would tell you to contact Microsoft as they probably release a bad patch, or Symantec just because their home products beak more than they can protect.
