Been using the latest full version of Fraps 2.8.2 and I have had one major issue while recording video.

I understand the FPS set in the movie record option is going to be the in game FPS when video capture is activated. My normal in game fps is around 60-70. I set the FPS for the movie to the standard 30, and I don't really have any issues, other than the significant slow down in responsiveness and game play.

So I tried bumping it up to 40 fps and every so often, about every 5-10 minutes or so, the game will lock-up for exactly 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, the game continues on just fine. (Of course if I am in the heli/jet I have usually crashed by now). Has anyone else encountered this same thing, and if so have you managed to remedy it?

Karma for anyone providing legitimate solutions.

Wouldn't the "significant slow down and responsiveness" be caused by the drop from 60-70 to 30 fps?

The slowdown is not the issue. The slowdown is to be expected because FRAPs projects the Framerate your using for the recording onto the game. The problem is that it completely freezes for about 10 seconds.

How often does it freeze like that? My guess is some sort of cache is filled and must be dumped somewhere, but I couldn't say for sure.

Kill every unneeded background process you can.  Also defrag your game and capture drives.  It's best to not have them both using the same drive, or chain for that matter, if at all possible.

It sounds like a background task with a higher priority is causing the grief, killing tasks should solve it.  Defraging will limit its effect slightly but greatly improve capture throughput.

I think Flaming_Maniac has the right idea here, sounds like its trying to cache...is there an option for increasing cache size?
