I owned BF2 and after that I joined BF2s.

Well, I am gonna go out on a limb and say the majority of people got BF2 first before coming to bf2s.com since battlefield 2 came out June 23rd(I think) and bf2s came around later that year.
BF2 first, then I came to check my stats and read the forums for a while as a guest and then decided to join

I bought this using a gift card Christmas of '05. Didn't get to play it until Christmas of '06, thanks to my ancient (2 month old) graphics card.
When I finally did play, I found out about and subsequently joined BF2s. The best part is, I found out about this site through Wikipedia.

I've been playing occasionally at a LAN gaming club for about a year before I bought the game in September 2006. It was the browsing on bf2s.com though, that gave me the final impulse to grab the game with all expansions though.
The online ranking with awards and unlocks was quite appealing, but the biggest factor was the constant flaming, bitching and spamming on the forum, hands down. I just felt I needed another forum where I get dragged into.
