Some good stuff that is basic counter terrorism in that vid. The basics that were deployed here in N.Ireland. Intelligence and observation instead of tanks and gun battles. The winning of hearts and minds is essential, but I believe that could be done in other ways. Handing out walke talke's and allowing the "neighbourhood watch" to patrol at night giving them a sense of power has its plus and negative points. It gives the people a sense of civic duty and makes them proud. But it also gives them a sense of power, which the new m16's give, which could back fire if as they say, the Americans don't follow al-Qaida with a quick exit.

Ends with the "commander of the "neighbourhood watch" saying:-"When we are done with al-Qaida America is next if they don't leave quickly" These guys were fighting the Coalition before the influx of forging fighters. They will turn on the US very very quickly when they have run out of al-Qaida to fight.

Actually rdx you make a point. The Iranians usually arm Shia groups and now the U.S is arming Sunni groups. Hmm...

The whole point was to get Iraqi's fighting under the same cause!! i.e. defeat Saddam, and terrorist elements in country.

Saddam's dead. . . .

Now the focus has certainly turned to destroying the terrorist element trying to engage in further sectarian violence, and overall instability!

There is nothing wrong with arming groups who change sides and see the light. . . . Obviously the insurgent groups realize al-Qaeda is more of a threat to them than the US forces.   If they want to help out coalition forces extinquish the terrorists, then absolutely give them the weapons to do it! We dont have all the troops necessary to do the job obviously!! If they work in tandem with US forces, then it could be a profitable endeavor.

Things change at a moments notice in war, sometimes the enemy of your enemy is your friend. . . . Lets just hope this new action benefits Iraq as a hole and lessens US troop deaths as well.  The Roman's used to do this type of shit all the time. . . .

You do realise those weapons will be turned onto US Marines in the unlikely event they manage to take out AQ?

You don't give these people weapons.  Especially sophisticated gear....I've seen the assault rifle GS has held....dauuuuummmmm I'd shoot one of those mofocka's.
Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
