As you've probably guessed from the title, I need to know if my PSU is powerful enough for the HD2900XT. ATi recommends a 750W, but I've read reviews where they've used a high end 500W with no problems, and I want to know if mine can do it too. It's a thermaltake toughpower 600W PSU. It has enough PCIx16 connectors, and I'm currently running 4 HDDs, an E6400, an Asus commando and an X1900XT with no problems.
This is it here:

And can people refrain from posting "ZoMFG ATI IZ TEH SUX0rz get teh 8800GST111!!"? If I wanted to hear that, I would have called the thread "Tell Sup3r_Dr4gon why Ati sucks so much". I'm tossing up whether or not to get one or the GTS, and knowing if I'll have to go out and buy a new PSU will help with the decision process.

It is good enough.

Why you would want to buy an HD2900XT baffles me though. ATi certainly don't suck, but the 2900 certainly does - whereas the 8800 cards are very nice. If you really want one, who are we to stop you getting one. It's a bad decision though.

Should be alright (as long as u dont plan to overclock it), I am not so sure on the GTS vs XT battle, namely because I dont think its quite fair to compare dx10 cards on dx9 games (then again, atis admission the thing is shit might put u off )..........  But like you said, you dont wanna hear the ati sucks thing, id buy the GTS like Bertster7 said.

Thanks for that.
From what I've read, the 2900 is roughly on par with the 640mb 8800 (perofrmance wise), but requires more power and is heavier. Like I said, I'm just looking into it, and I'll probably wait until the cards are actually tested in a DX10 game before buying one.

PSU will fit, the X29** *** needs at least 600W PSU. But I suggest you should rather spend the money on a Nvidia 88** series card. Those outrun the new ATI“s by far (even the 8800GTS 320 MB, man, even the 7900GTX is faster)

They have been tested on DX10 games. Like Lost Planet and Company of Heroes. The 2900XT is equivilent to the 8800GTS 640MB, it many cases it is even slower than the 320MB version though. DX10 performance on the 2900XT is a bit mixed, sometimes it can keep pace with an 8800 GTX, other times it runs slower than an 8800GTS 320MB.

I wouldn't get one though. Not unless you've got loud speakers to drown out the fans.....     It's just a bit noisy.

I would suggest a little more powerful PSU.

Can i ask why you are purchasing a HD2900XT? To me it seems just a waste of money. I mean if you were connected to the company in any shape or form and therefore you received a discount, that's understandable, but it makes no sense otherwise.
