Well it's my time to finally get a new computer! This time though, I'm building it myself. I'm building a computer primarily for speed and gaming. Below are a list of parts of my new computer that I have selected. I am not sure if they are all compatible together or not so please tell me. If you think one of the parts I have selected are not good quality or priced please tell me another part that is better and can fit my needs. It needs to be $1650, very close to that or below. This is not only in reference for me but to others who are seeking to build or buy a new computer.

Drop the raptor for two bigger 'slower' drives then RAID 0 them.  Raptor runs at 10k yea, conventional HD's are at 7.2k. if you raid them they will run at 14.4k (in theroy me thinks) and your getting a lot more storage for less (two 250GB segates are cheaper than one raptor ).

Not sure you really need that motherboard, it has lots of features that you will probably never use, asus have a cheaper one very much like it, all be it less feature heavy but agaim, I doubt anyone uses all of that.

Maybe a better idea to get the E6420 CPU, but that is up to u, the system uv speced looks good, but my suggestions will save you some cash that u can spend on other crap like beer, or maybe upgrade the graphics to a GTX if you want that

I can't help you too much, but I saw a topic in which someone warned against buying the Striker motherboard that you have listed.

http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=76841

I think it's comment #12 that says not to buy it.  I'm not sure about this kind of stuff myself, but you might want to PM this guy and see what he has to say.

Good luck with the build.

Looks like a very solid machine.

I'd spend the extra $30 for the GTS by EVGA that is overclocked to 576(GPU) and 1700(memory) instead of going with the expensive raptor HD.

The RAID configuration is a good idea, but any good SATA drive will be as fast as you will need for a lot cheaper.

You could really save yourself about $50 - $150 on a MoBo with a little less shimmer...that is, of course, unless you plan of using all of that for some crazy overclock configuration.

Do you really really want that expensive case?  That would be another good place to cut some fat.

What OS do you plan to use? Just curious

Anyway, good stuff man.  Should have no problem running BF2 on max settings/resolution, not to mention DX10 games in the future.

-> Buy two seagates and RAID them just like he said. You will get better than a single raptor performance for less price + more storage. It is a no brainer. Note the review is for single drives, not RAID'ed, even so, the seagate is still close to the raptor in performance. Hard drives have come a long way since I last bought a computer.

Read this thread -> http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=76841
It will tell you why not to get the striker extreme.

You do not need a 700W power supply - the maxium load tomshardware was able to achieve with a quad core (note double your power consumption of dual core), 4 HD's in raid, two 8800 GTX in SLI, 4 sticks of ram, optical drives in use, etc, the max load was 535W!

You want to pay for a stable and reliable power supply. -> http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=964 … geID=2582. Search any review on the Antec TP3 650 and you will see it is rock solid at idle and all the way to full load. It is very hard to find a power supply this reliable, the only con is that it looks like any other supply. If you have read the reviews on your power supply and you think it is ok, then by all means keep it, but make sure you know what you are buying.

Lite-on drives have notorious problems reading some discs / creating discs that other computers can't read. I'd suggest a plextor as the best you can get, or grab a sony or equivalent.

The case is big enough, but you may want to look at another case. Go to new egg and type antec 900 and then read the user reviews and you'll find out everything you want to know and if you want to buy it or not. For every product you are looking at buying - I always suggest looking the exact model up in newegg and reading as many user reviews as you can to get a general idea of what you are getting into and what problems you will have.

Problems you avoid up front = time saved later, especially if you have to return an item and pay the shipping and then wait for a new one to come back!

Zenmaster is right, you dont need a 700w psu for this rig. I m getting about the same rig as you except i got a 8800gtx, 4gb ram and 3 hdd's. I m getting a 600w zalman psu and its only 100 euro's. While i was looking around for a psu, i noticed the 700w psu's start at 200+ euro's so if you dont need a big psu, you can save some money there.

I noticed you re getting a single 150 gb wd raptor. Like someone else mentioned 2 seagate barracuda's 7200rpm in raid 0 is faster, cheaper and you get more space then a single raptor. I ve ordered 2 74gb raptors in raid 0 for my os/games and a seagate barracuda 320gb for some extra space btw.

Good luck on the build mate.

Echo. That is rubbish.
Read my post, check the links. Great PSU for $139.99, which = around 105 euros.
