I've been thinking about trying this... and have just been wondering a couple things... Whats a good gun and how much does it cost, What is a "Hopper"? and thats all I can think of right now...
You got money to burn?
If your just starting out, I would go for a Tippmann 98 custom or a tippman a-5. the hopper is what holds your paintballs....usually 200 rounds. if i were you i would just start out with a basic gun, and if you really like playing then i would worry about upgrades. there is no reason to go out and buy a $500 marker to find out you dont like the sport.
A 'Hopper' is a large inflatable tough rubber ball with horns:

Don't ask me what that's got to do with paintballing.
JOKE! A 'Hopper' is like the 'magazine' for a paintball gun.

It's tuberware for your gun. Get a Halo B hopper.
If you are jsut starting dont get a halob, you dont need that for a tippman. Just get a Viewloader 200. Tippmans are pretty good for starting rec players. But if youd like to spend 300 bucks get a Smart Parts Ion. I think it was 300, last time i paintballed was 2 years ago, might be cheaper now. Also many people will say Dont go for smart parts, dont listen to them....

Probably the most costly "sport" to start up in. That's why I don't bother buying my own stuff, rather pay $30 to rent a gun for a day.Volatile_Squirrel wrote:

And an electronic marker that shoots like 20 balls a second, with an anti-chop eye, and has a grenade launcher, and oooh oohh - MSX hax you can bring up on your pistol grip LCD!!!!!!!joker8baller wrote:

Tournament or Woodsball? For tournament you need a good fast gun like the ion or WGP, diablo, autococker guns. For Woodsball the Tippmann X-7 or A-5 is the best because of all of its upgrades. Go here and see what you like www.Specialopspaintball.com
Pfft, you and your fancy Tippmans.
Spyder is the way to go, but only in Woodsball. The Spyder series is, IMO, the best well-rounded gun out there.

Yeah thats a good idea, but some of us have no control over our buying impulses. I paintballed only like 5 times before getting into high end cockers and angels.Jbrar wrote:

Paintball = tons of fun.
Casual players should be advised not to purchase their own markers unless they really have money to burn, or you intend to play constantly. I wouldn't bother unless you have a burning desire to, and then, a Tippmann, Spyder, or at the highest cost, Ion, should be your purchased marker. The only upgrade you really would need is a barrel.
I don't know how professional you'd be doing it, but my friend went off to Africa for a match. They drove quad bikes and it was a TDM (Team Deathmatch). He crashed the quad but luckily was still okay, but the bruises from when people shot him - they are a good 2" by 2"
id personally go for a spyder. ive had various spyders since i was in high school playing, and they are good for indoor and outdoor games...easy to clean under pressure too.
i started with a spyder tl plus..way back when. now im using a MR-1 with the m4 barrel...its sweet. i dont go for the electric guns...

You dont need an expensive gun to play well, especially if youre not playing in actual paintball ranges. Its not like airsoft where one bitch may have an AEG that spits out tons of bb's and some other kid with a spring cocking fuckup gun, where there is huge price gaps inbetween. Paintball is more fun also. You can get guns like the spyder xtra for a very low cost, and guns like it arent bad at all
rockin the egooo
I've been thinking about getting into it for a while... Maybe I'll go rent one and use that for the day before I make a decision on if I'm actually gonna get into it...
1. Rent first!, I played my first 2 years with a rent gun!
2. if you play "tournament" get smart parts Ion with an electronic hopper
3. if you play forest/campaign get a tippmann. Either a-5 or 98 custom pro. With E-grip, if you want firemodes.
