My friends clan web site got hacked and dunno what to do. this is the site http://www.e-s-o.com/

As u can see theres no forum there no nothing. Friend told me that the hackers were on their clans TS so he wants to know how to trace their ip i think.

If u have had any experience with a site beeing hacked i would appreciate that u telll me what u did, so they would get the data from the forums back and find the hackers so it doenst happen again.

Do you still have the SQL database? If so, you should be fine for the forum data

I assume they had a site back-up?

First thing, dont panic. How exactly was the website attacked? Defaced? Compeltely wiped?

Hi, it was my site that was hacked. I think it was an SQL injection hack (they changed all the admin details). We managed to recover the data and I've installed ravennuke instead now. Just a case of trying to get back at the bastards who did it. I have the offenders website and contact details, just no IP.

I would take it with a pinch of salt and move on. My site (when i used joomla) was hacked twice but since i know how these things work I was able to fix it in minutes.  Now I dont use any major public stuff like phpbb. Phpbb if not kept up to date can be very dangerous. If you want a free vbulleting alternative I would go for SMF its way better or even PunBB like the one here.

Do you know where the hacker did this exploit? got any contact forms? 3rd party add ons? These are the usual causes.

If I were you I would try to make a unique website, not using massive CMS like PHP-Nuke because everyone gets to see the code and if they find an exploit, all the sites running Nuke are at risk. If you make a website from scratch, no one knows the code so its harder to spot an exploit

Your host should usually keep backups. Mine back up weekly and this was helpful when my site was attacked. It was just a case of restoring, finding and fixing the exploit.

Yea, we got it restored from backup. I'm no coder so making a website from scratch is realy out of the question. We now have RaveNuke which is regularaly updated. It's based on phpNuke v7.6 with about 10,000 patches (or so their site says).
