It would piss me off so much if I had just taken over an enemy base single handedly, but just before i capture it, the tank spawns.  You run over to it and you go 'FUCK, why was I medic!'  Then When you begin to cap another base, an enemy runs up, takes the tank and kills you.

That type of shit would get so annoying.

but having two engineers in armour next to each other fixes the problem. gunners die easily. if im in a tank and the other tank has a gunner i will always go for him if im losing.

That explains why I die so quickly when riding tanks around.

I still think it's worth the risk. More points, better gun, cover, quickly-available health and resupply, and a ride to the action.
I just need to learn to bail when engaged.
