Privatize the Postal Service

It seems like the time has come for us to completely privatize the Postal Service. Though it's often cheaper to use than UPS and FedEx, when you figure in the amount spent on it in taxes along with the generally sub-par service, I'd say we would come out ahead by letting them go.

Besides, I believe it's UPS that is the private shipper that is already doing much of their work for them at the moment (either that or FedEx, I can't remember).

What do you guys think?

I could care less about the US Postal Service. I never use it. I always send e-mail, or use FedEx or UPS on the occasion that I need to send a package. Everything is digital now. Sure I still receive snail mail, but I never send it. So whether it's privatized or still in the government sector, I don't think I'd notice.

Privitization would definately result in improved customer service when you have to go in and get something. I hate the USPS office where I live. Not enough parking, and not enough clerks and too many people in line.

Not here. Royal Mail works just fine, at a reasonable price, and was even making a profit until they let other companies steal the profitable markets out from under them.

It usually is slower than UPS or FedEx for packages but I just can't see any of those companies handling the large quantity of everyday mail that goes through everyday. Maybe in a few decades, but certainly not now...

Good point... maybe we can create a transitional market. Like, we can slowly allow the private sector to take over more and more responsibilities of the Postal Service. Eventually, we would have a market capable of handling the volume.

There's probably a section on their application specifically marked "check if you're an asshole". Everyone who marks it gets a job at the DMV...
