Okay, today after coming home from exam and having a bit more time for myself I went into my computer about 17.00. Then I wanted to check out how the Insurgency mod was coming along. Well, in the box I typed insmod.com and pretty fast I found out that it was the wrong site(domain site). A couple of pop-ups came. Then I typed insmod.org but then out of the blue I was at some kind of porn site called advancedhunt.com.
Norton said that there were some Trojan horses. I cant remember if it said it had blocked them or if it was unable to block them. I think the Trojan was called download.Trojan. I ran Norton-scan but no result came. What should I do and how serious should I take this problem. How harm-full can a Trojan horse be.

Save yourself lots of trouble and time and just back up what you need and reformat.

Trojans are bad, but Norton is even worse.

I will explain more once i come back from eating my tea

Make sure Norton is up to date, and then try another scan.

Check the running processes (CTRL + ALT + DEL), and google any processes you don't recognise to see for any signs of a Virus.

However, unless you are lucky you will end up reformatting.... trojans are bad

your entire pc will become infected with tojans, which will lead to every case of spyware/malware/viruses and hackers will have access to everything on your pc .... pretty much

reformat man, the trojans will have been backed up in the system restore by now so you need to reformat

EDIT : make SURE YOU do something about it man, for your own sake

Hm. I suggest getting NOD32 and setting that on a full scan for a few hours. It may pick it up as it is a much better anti-virus than Norton.

Checks Nortons quarantine. It may be there and you just panicked for nothing.

Trojans are a real bitch. I would partition the hard drive, trasnfer all your important files onto that partition, then format the local disk ( the partition you are using ) and re-install XP/Vista.

Shouldn't be too hard, there are instructions on the net.

My kids are tech-noobey, so they have broken my rules of Internet no-no's. After the infections rendered their computer's basically useless - I had to reformat and re-install the OP.

ok been in the quarantine and found some. in the quarantine section there are 3 options. quarantine items where there (0) it says.

then there is something called backup items where there is one that matches the virus.

ok, is this good then?

Maybe. Be best to double check. But I think norton caught the littler pests.

Any semi-intelligent hacker would realize "Hey, some stupid kid just opened up his whole damn computer to me, sweet!"
Most likely, it's the parents computer, so they have business or tax information on there.

Some other useful tools you can try are AVG anit-virus, which is free to use, and also System Mechanic 7 which you can use for 30 days free of charge.  I use them both and they keep my P.C. very clean.

Which means Norton repaired the item. You should be fine.

hmmm, I still wonder why I was redirected to that page. fuck the internet. karma 4 all.

better make a couple of scans over the next days.

but does it mean anything that i got the virus message 3 times but it only says it repaired 1 item. maybe because its of the same kind.

so guys stay far away from these sites.
