This may make me sound like an idiot, but whatever.

1. Is it possible to blow heli TV missiles up in mid air? For instance, if I shot a TV missile at another heli and just barely missed, could I blow it up to get the kill? I was watching a few heli vids, and unless I'm mistaken, that's what they were doing.

2. Instant lock-ons...how do they work? Whenever I target a heat source, it takes a second to lock-on, but I've had a few experiences where someone else gets an instant lock on my jet.

1. TV missiles cannot remote detonate
2. the second missile fired from a jet locks automatically

Just to add onto that, you seeing what appeared to be a remote detonation was probably a famous case of hitbox lag.

at 450 meters TV missiles detonate, i've had a few times where i'll put an enemy chopper in the reds by having my TV missile explode right before it hits, and it started smoking

In reply to question 1, I remember a topic somewhere where a TV missile was fired and it would flying towards its target when suddenly the view changes and its flying back in the OPPOSITE direction, i.e. towards the heli where it was fired from.
Then, both choppers were blown out of the air, both tk'd by their gunners (not realised until too late that the view had changed). They thought it was because the TV's actually collided in midair.

Twas a long time ago though. Thats one way of doing it

I think what youre talking about is when either an AA or jet missile is fired, but misses its intended target, and goes after the nearest heat source. There is no warning tone, just instant lock as the missile's target changes directly to you. More often than not theyre from a friendly source than an enemy.
