I have waited long enough, and as much as it pains me to admit that I can't figure this out, I need help guys.

In the past, I've suffered from the various "There is a problem with your connection" disconnects, but it was a rare occurance. For a period of 8 months of playing, I only recieved said error three times. I had always bragged at the quality of my connection and how it never let me down.

3 weeks ago, karma caught up to me. It started off as one day, a laggy connection for internet browsing and then when I went to fire up the game, I CTD'd. This was even more a rarity, in comparison to the disconnects. So I re-boot the system and go to play again, and it works fine for the first half hour. Midway through a round, I get the "There is a problem with your connection" message yet again. I re-load to the same server and carry on. 25 minutes later, "There is a problem with your connection". Reconnect and carry on, 20 minutes later, "There is a problem with your connection." And I got off that night.

Figuring that it wasn't a big deal, I shrugged it off and didn't play for a few days (RL needed some time too). On the following Friday, I sit down to a nice, 64 player Karkand server only to find that every 10 minutes, I saw "There is a problem with your connection." And since then, I haven't been able to sustain a connection for longer than 10 minutes. I can play for the first 7 and a half minutes reasonably well (there is lag, which has gotten annoying as well, but it isn't as bad as it gets). When those last 2.5 minutes show up, I get massive lag spikes, FPS drops, and sound bugs. And then, like clockwork, at the 10 minute point, everything freezes and "There is a problem with your connection" displays on my screen.

Because of the signs, I believed the problem to first lie in my system. I've done a few checks and have found that other games have no issues such as these, even playing at much higher graphic levels than those set up for BF2. So now I believe that the issue is my connection. I currently have an 8 mb (I'm fairly sure) cable connection provided by Comcast, and want to know how I can remedy the solution.

I will now describe my set up as the internet enters the system:
[*] Cable comes in from wall into preliminary Comcast (provided with service) modem.
[*] Ethernet line runs to a Linksys VOIP phone adapter for our internet phone service.
[*] Ethernet line runs to a Linksys WRT54G router.
[*] Ethernet line runs to a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller, installed on my system.

This has been my set up for at least 2 months before the connection issue first occured.

Also, I have recently done a modem swap from Comcast's standard to a Motorola SB5120, because I believe that the origonal modem had fried. We lost the connection one night and it took alot of work (with the new modem) to get things running. At first, I thought that the new modem would remedy the situation, but I am mistaken. I still have the same 10 minute gaming sessions before a connection error.

Because of this, BF2 (and some other online games: TDU, for example) have become unplayable. I want to fix this issue.

To those of you who have actually read to this point, I thank you for your attention. I also wish to thank you in advance for your help and knowledge to solve the problem. I need help guys.

hmmm...

have you plugged the computer Ethernet straight from the modem into the computer? just see what kinda of connection you get.

If I have time tonight, I will give this a try.

You can play for 20 mins, I can't even join a server. Does your internet stop when you quit? Because when I connect, my whole internet goes down. I need to wait more than 5mins, in order to get it back.

I heared  it's to do with packets/negative ping.  But I have no idea. I am getting really pissed as well.

No, thats always working. Xfire never loses it's connection whenever BF2 goes under.

I've never heard of a negative ping, so I'm not sure.

Just Linksys' site will do, right? Or is there a particular 3rd party that has some good firmware for it?

And thank you to all who have helped thusfar.

the linksys site should have everything you need.

edit: i assume you are running wireless.
try using windows wireless connection stuff if you use the linksys program. or vice versa.....also, whenever im going to play, i right click my connection icon and "Repair" it.

As explained in the OP, it's a wired connection from the router to my computer. The wireless is in place for the other desktop and labtop that we currently have running on our network.

I'm updating firmware now to see if there is a difference.

Is there a particular reason you're hopping through 2 different routers?  Typically, running wireless is not good for gaming, because the connection is much more erratic than standard "wired".

Also, you can try http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe and set "optimal" settings.

try that, if not i would try direct from the modem, atleast rule out whether the router is the problem. also try hitting it with a blunt object, or pouring water on it.*

*seriously those last two suggestion were a joke, marlboroman holds no responsibility for you computer if you are dumb enough to try either of those suggestions.

Good news, I was able to stay connected for 30 minutes, then disconnected on my own! There is progress.

Problem is that the lag spikes are still present, especially where I should experience another "There is a problem with your connection" incident.

So it's a partial fix, thanks to Parker.

I'm running two routers for the internet phone/internet access respectivley. The phone router is wired, and has cords to the main phone jack on the telephone system. The WRT54G provides a wireless signal for a seperate desktop and labtop system in our network, but the main rig (the one I am currently on, and the one which I game on) is a wired connection from the WRT54G. I could have done a wirelss card, but because of the "wired" advantage, I thought I'd be okay.

I appreciate the input, but seeing as how Parker's solution is working well, I don't know if I'll go through wtih your suggestion. We'll see if the situation worsens.

I'll keep you guys updated.

The problem persists yet again.

Lag is bad, and a connection error occurs every 40 minutes or so now. It's slightly bearable, but annoying.

New/fresh suggestions?
