I've seen some cool alternate skins like an F2000 and various scoped versions of all guns, but can you change it personally? Like so you can see it that way on any server? Or does that server have to host the weapon skins?
you can add skins before source, but I think source doesn't let you do anything....

Yes you can download skins and use them locally with no problem. It will look the same on any server you join. Give me a second and I will tell you the directory they need to go in...

Note you won't be able to play on servers with the CAL config or play in CAL with skins.

meh new problem ive fixed that but now when ever i get a new skin in the game they appear with a checkered purple and white i think pattern... wahhooo

there's a certain order to put the right files into the right spots, i wish i could actually show you, i cant explain it in writing.

Well, i was using Custom Skins for a really long time, no problems at all. But then, after getting a Dark Mall Lightsaber knife, i decided it was a bit much. I purged my CSS from my computer, and then just downloaded it again (it will let you do it again free, the account will remember you have it). Since then ive never gotten another custom skin.
A) The stock skins are better, believe me
B) Custom skins mess you up, they always mess with my mind on how accurate, or otherwise my weapon is
C) you'll load way faster without them, or at least your client information will be sent faster.

B.) back when i played the game i could nail three people before the first one registered as a kill, WITH customs.
C.) skins are completely client side. the server never knows you have them. ever.
