That old saying annoys me sometimes. Your Government works for YOU, YOU pay their wages (through taxes) ...so I bloody well will ask what my Country can do for me. I admire patriotism ...but only to a certain point.
Ahh, you must be a welfare supporter!

I do support welfare to a point ...I demand to see something in return for my hard earned tax Euros. Whether it's welfare (not that I've ever been on welfare) or good roads and services or even just visible proof that my Government is not wasting our taxes on something useless like a war in Iraq, or exorbitant aid for Israel for example (thankfully my Government is not guilty of these examples).

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington … poll_x.htm

"Only 37% of Americans gave Congress a high approval rating, down from 45% last month, the poll taken last week showed. A total of 53% disapproved, up from 48% in February."

I was hoping for something more like you promised Congresswoman Pelosi........guess not.

Gee, you guys forgot GW's approval rating at 26%.  The lowest of any President other than Nixon.  I believe that says it all.

And yet people still mainly vote for Democrats or Republicans despite disaproving of both.

Don't you guys see - if Bush has a low rating, its the Rupublicans' fault.  If Congress has a low rating, blame the Democrats.

Wow, could it be that people don't approve of our politicians in office in general?  Could it be that our political system is run by corporate money and lobbyists?  I bet if they were the ones polled the approval ratings would be through the roof.

Elections/Politics in the US are all about who can raise the most money and organize the most voters.  It's not about platforms (other than to gain votes) or morals or ethics or any type of altruistic service to the government.

So keep voting along those party lines guys!

We did?  Search this section again.

But we know Bush and the repubs are fucked up, and the Dems made a promise....and have failed miserably.

The fact that the troops aren't home is the sole reason thier approval rating is so low. Just my opinion.

My view is the Dems had no recourse.  If they had stayed the course and returned the bill to the President you Reps would have said. the Dems don't support the troops.  True or not????   So yea, they backed down.  I think the whole country has just about had it with both parties.  Which is probably why you see guys jumping ship to the Independent.

Bloomberg jumped ship twice...  once from Democrat to Republican, then from Republican to Independent.  I can't say I blame him....

I like him...  He figured out firsthand that both parties are worthless.  I'd say those of us that are still loyal to a party are the fools.

I don't see it that way.  He is jumps around to find a position that helps him at any given moment.  I understand having a change of heart so to speak, but to go from rep to dem to rep to ind is just plain sad if you ask me.

He's an opportunist for sure, but that's not very different from how the parties act themselves.  I mean, when's the last time you saw a Republican actually support smaller government?   They say they're for smaller government, but they just spend more than Democrats.

By the same token, when's the last time you saw a Democrat actually support the working class?
