I like what you said about it being a security net.  Social Security is not ment to be the thing that you live off of when you retire.  It is only ment to help out and like Reciprocity said to help out in bad situations.  Too many people think social security is enough or will be enough when they retire.

d4rkst4r if you go research you might find that the CPP is not fully funded and is sometimes referred to as a "pay-as-you-go" plan. It is estimated that CPP benefits paid out would exceed CPP contributions in 2022.  Sounds a lot like the U.S. Social Security plan.

Thats funny, because when I read your wikipedia source and searching 2022 on that article, you know what it said behind it? It said "Citation Fucking Needed", maybe you should research that.

I just want to put it in a bond getting 6% compound interest.  That will double my money every 12 years.

Thats a good start! Start looking into Mutal Funds which bring in more money and look into other personal retirement funds. Spread your money out over several funds is one of the things I was taught incase something happens with one.

people need to remember is that social security is not made for you to retire happy with money always in abundance.

Social security was made as a supplement.  You weren't suppose to and will never get a substantial amount.  Its just 'pocket' money  to help you survive the remaining life you have left.

It is not a money tree people.

Cept you'd only be getting 2% interest. Inflation hurts.

I wonder what the actual inflation rate is for those who put money into the system and are drawing out benifits now?  I bet its less than 2%.
