Did you crate train him/her?  Did it work?  Just curious because I am crate training my new dog, and was wondering if anyone else has any tips.  I am about to complete the dreaded cry/howl/whimper stage (first night).

I have one dog, he's the laziest dog ever born.

sits on the couch all day, only moves to eat.

eats bugs, jumps on my nutz, and runs full speed into the sliding glass door.

so damn cute though.

edit: he's housebroken, but doesn't do any other stuff.  he was trained when we got him from the pound.

my dog was the worst puppy fucking ever. it had those razor sharp puppy teeth and tore a holes in all my shorts.  we called a obedience trainer person and after those classes my dog is very obedient and just a good dog. ( its a lab)

IMO...if you cannot support the dog being free, then do not get a pet.

Had 5 dogs in my life, non crate trained, all housed trained, and damn do they listen, my Black lab, if it out front, and a dog comes down the street it will run into the backyard in order to bark at it.

I guess IMO is your opinion then not experience?  Do you mean dogs being free in the instance of "no fences I've go so much fucking land that the dog will run till if falls from exhaustion and is still be in the yard"?  Or must I make enough money that I can hire a Nanny?  I do have a nice fenced in yard, but I've done some research and found nothing but results that support crate training.  Let me know if it doesn't work... Really. +1

Fenced yard yes.

When in the house, give it room.  A crate is horrible if you ask me.

The dog will cry a lot for about a week, don't worry.  If you're really concerned, get a companion turtle or something.

What kind of dogs?  How long before whining stopped?  You still crate them when you leave?  How old are they?

No Dr. Spock shit here.  Puppy shits in the house = puppy gets a nose full of shit and thrown outside.  They get it before long.

Persistence and patience FTW.

You know you've been up to late when you think the thread title is "Anyone Seen a Dog"... Don't ask me how I got that out of the title..

Anyways, night.

btw, I have a 3 year old Golden Retriever, and we just kept him in a cornered off area of the kitchen with newspapers on the ground at the start until he started to get the idea that you take shits and pisses outside of the house..
