Sometimes when i turn on my computer and it reaches the part when Windows XP is shown and some circle is rolling below, it takes almost a minute with my hard drive light flashing repeatly. Sometimes, it just bootsup normally, very fast. Anyone help? This happened after i reformatted my HDD.
You don't have an external Hd do you?
i ask because when i boot and my ext. HD is connected and on, it will sometimes take a minute on the "Windows is starting up" screen while it searches for it. If i turn the ext. HD off on this screen it boots up immediately

Uhh, nope, i dont connect my ext HDD to my com whenever its booting up. I always remove it before i turn my com off. Sometime back, I remember it showed up on my taskbar as a removable disk icon and i added some registry entry so that it doesnt show up on the taskbar anymore ie.(DisableRemovable, Value set to 1).mitch212k_2 wrote:

could it not be it's looking for the non-removable disk (that you set in the registry) that's not actually there?
The non-removable disk .... which you removed?

Nope. I meant the internal Hard drive. Its a SATA and its sitting in my com since 2005 christmas. Then i reformatted it, and it showed up on my taskbar as a removable disk icon, wanted to remove the icon, so i added a registry entry to it.mitch212k_2 wrote:

ok well i don't know sorry
k use this utility
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
from here you'll be able to disable programs at startup that you dont need, just keep the anti virus software, and windows files disable all of the rest of the crap that you dont need.

so this way when the windows boots up it does not have to load up 50 files, make it so it only uses like max 5 files or so.

Why waste your time downloading that? When Windows has one already?blademaster wrote:

Start > Run > msconfig > Startup
that is if he is unfamiliar with the msconfig thats why I posted this one, it tells you which programs you can eliminate and which ones you can keep.leetkyle wrote:
