The Killers: Sam's Town album, Hot Fuss album
Duh the classic Jimi Hendrix. Makes me Woner by Maroon 5 is a good song and Freya by the swords.
Alright, I'm a straight shootin death metal listener, but if you really want some crusing music that's upbeat and catchy...try "Ska". This genre has a brass section and airily played electric guitars; nothing technical, but the singing is usually great and these songs are VERY catchy. Trust me, you'll be addicted in no time.
Some bands:
Catch 22
Reel Big Fish
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Goldfinger
Sublime
Those are the more well known ones with very good songs. I know Sublime is reggae too, but they fucking rock.
Hope I helped.

Judas Priest: Painkiller
Fear Factory: Shock
Iron Maiden: Aces High
The Offspring: The Kids Aren't Alright
Downside is that they'll give you the desire to floor it.

a road trip you say? well these songs are all supposed driving songs (even if they are a lil' old):
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Crosstown traffic
The Jam - Start!
Supergrass - caught by the fuzz
and then to go a little RnB you have
Big Dog - raise the alarm
Bomb The Bass Featuring Justin Warfield - bug powder dust
