Get a PSP.

You can run homebrew code and "backups" on them. Apart from any game ISOs (there's always 3 or 4 of them as well as the UMD in the drive - so you don't have to carry any extra disks around) currently on my memory stick, I've got Doom (Ultimate + 2 + Plutonium and TNT), a SNES emulator with about 50 games and a CPS2 emulator with about 30 games.

What do you mean how much to emulators run? You just downgrade the frimware, then update to a custom firmware to run them (very easy to do, no chiping or anything required - depending on your firmware version you may need a copy of GTA LCS to downgrade). They can be easily found online (Blackcats Games is excellent for these sorts of things), usually with bundled ROM packs. There are loads of emulators available; SNES, Megadrive/Genesis, CPS, CPS2, PSX, PCEngine, GBA and many more. The emulators are small, but ROMS and ISOs can take up a bit of space, so you'll want to get a 2-4GB memory stick.

2 different gaming styles IMO.

Me as a person - I would normaly get a PSP : sleek black cover, looks 'techy' and 'nice', good graphics, lots of uses, expensive.

But I ended up getting a DS lite.

Purely 'cos I saw 4 of my friends sat in a circle playing mario kart...it just looked so much fun!    I bought one, joined in, AMAZING!

PSP's have more serious games and I really don't think you can play games seriously on a handheld console which is why more 'fun' games like mario kart for the DS are more fun!

Also if you do happen to get a PSP with FW 3.10-3.50, there is a new exploit that involves Lumines and soon will let all those FW's downgrade.

They're emulators, they're free. If you don't own a copy of the original game you have to delete it after a day though (if you're super honest, that is).

Emulators and the games cost nothing. It's also extremely easy to obtain ISO (preferably compressed to CSO) files of PSX and PSP games omline, which is a lot easier than making your own ISOs for the games you own. Of course you would never download an ISO of a game you didn't already own, because that would be illegal.

like, when i see ppl playing a PSP somewhere, im like "hummm....cool....i want one...i wonder what game they are playing" and try to see

but when i see someone playing a DS, im like "ehhh....i feel embarrassed for you....." and i try to move away from them
I think the exact opposite.
When I see someone playing a PSP I think, "Hahahaha...HOW much did you pay for that?"  And I try to get close enough to laugh at them, but then I try to move away from them.

When I see someone playing a DS, I think, "Hey, this guy knows what's good.  Would you like to play a game of Mario Kart, chap?"

I guess it depends on your preference - do you want a gaming system to play games in a new way on, or do you want a hunk of battery-draining plastic that you can watch over-priced movies on as well?

I am biased because I am a Nintendo fan, but I really do think the DS is the better system.

Yup, on your memory stick. You can put any games on there. PSP games range between about 20MB upto almost 2GB, so a 2 or 4GB memory stick is a good idea. My CPS2 ROMset is about 400MB, my SNES ROMset is about 30MB - all of those are of course free.

All the people who slander PSPs, don't know anything about their potential.

My PSP currently has on:

Doom (every version based on te original engine)
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Football Manager 2007
Sid Meier's Pirates
Burnout Revenge
Metal Slug Anthology
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
1944
19XX
Alien Vs. Predator
Armoured Warriors
Battle Circuit
Capcom Sports Club
Cyberbots
Darkstalkers
Dimahoo
Shadow over Mystara
Tower of Doom
Eco Fighters
Giga Wing
Marvel Super Heroes
Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Streetfighter
Marvel Vs. Capcom
Mega Man 2 : The Power Fighters
Mighty Pang
Night Warriors
Progear
Ring of Destruction
Streetfighter Alpha
Streetfighter Alpha 2
Streetfighter Alpha 3
Super Puzzle Fighter
Super Streetfighter 2
Super Streetfighter 2 Turbo
Vampire Saviour
Vampire Saviour 2
X-Men Vs. Streetfighter
X-Men: Children of the Atom
Dragon Quest I+II
F-Zero
Final Fantasy III
Lemmings 2
Micro Machines
Mystical Ninja
Rock N Roll Racing
Secret of Mana I + II
Shadowrun
Sim City
StarFox
SuperBomberman 1, 2 & 3
Mario All Stars
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Super Punch-Out

As well as either Virtual Tennis 3, GTA LCS or PES6 in the UMD slot (although I do of course own UMDs of all the ISOs I have on the memory stick too ).

That's a pretty decent selection -and it does get changed about quite a bit.

My only complaint about the PSP is that the D-Pad is not ideal for Streetfighter. I've been very impressed by the battery life of them too.

better graphics
download free music, movies and games
internet connectivity
reflective black finish
greater after market
Even with those advantages I still wouldnt buy one. I tend to lose stuff smaller than a 17'' LCD screen often.
