I'm officially starting a BOYCOTT of the new BF2 booster packs Euro Force and Armored Fury, and I wonder if anyone else has the nards to join in?

After a week I "finally" got a response back from EA on whether they plan to offer the packs over-the-counter in a box CD as well as from the EA Downloader scheme.  They plan to only release the 2 new packs through their downloader.  They are so ashamed  of what they're trying to pull on us they wouldn't even post the response on their web site for everyone else to read.  I had to log into a special web page through a link they emailed me.

Even though the EA Downloader is free, a customer must first download their spyware/ad-ware program so EA can load all their crap right onto your machine.  Then they will "ALLOW" you to pay to download the games!  The EA Downloader scheme must always be running in the background in order to play the game eating up precious bandwidth, collecting all your personal demographic info and habits and sending it back to EA for review.  Even if you wanted to play it in single player mode, YOU CAN'T.  You have to have their spyware running collecting data on your habits!  If your files go corrupt or your computer crashes a month from now and you can't remember you password, TOUGH!  Simply download their spyware and pay them AGAIN for the games.  If at any time they decide not to support the game anymore (like we haven't seen that before), TOUGH!  They got your money and they're on to the next scheme to rid you of your hard earned cash!

I've read several posts in the past about EA's lack of respect for the people that keep them in business - Their CUSTOMER - and always shrugged it off.  Now with this move I'm a firm believer.  The only thing they care about is the almighty dollar.  I wonder how many others have the nards not to fall for this garbage?  If it's the dollar they want, it won't come from me.  I know the weak-minded will always follow the masses and believe whatever the bosses say.  But I think it's time for the rest of us to stand up and tell EA "TOSS OFF!"  Make them come to their senses.

DON'T BY THESE PACKS THROUGH THE EA DOWNLOADER SCHEME!  MAKE EA SELL THEM OVER THE COUNTER AS WELL!

Hm...
EA is responsible for alot of bad stuff. This one however I can't seem to get my grips on...

If it's loaded with malware, and you can prove it, you can press charges against EA and land yourself a hefty lump of cash. I have never played the game with the downloader on in the background (it eats too much rescources )

Blaming EA for you losing your password seems somewhat odd (write it down somewhere ) And I do believe it was made exspressivly clear all the way from the beginning that booster packs would only be sold on-line...

So I guess you'll have to live with it or not - your choice...

...the downloader doesnt have to be running in the background.

also, it states on their website in plain view that the booster packs are for PC (download only).

and youre right, i have no testicles...im going to be weak minded and follow the masses because i cant make up my mind for myself.

...but if i did what you said and boycotted, wouldnt i be following you as well?  kind of a catch-22 dont you think?

I am in.
I wont buy anything with spyware running in the background. I allready quit World of Warcraft for that reason.
In the case of WoW however public preasure worked and since one of the later patch you can start their Game without having warden check all your data in the background.

It's not available to buy yet...  Which I will be doing the day it is.  I bought  SF from the EA downloader, and I only used the downloader once.  I do not run it in the background.

Im with you all the way if the expansion packs will be available ONLY through download.  That download game junk is just way to much of a hassle. I would rather pay $30-$40 for the disks than $20 to download it and have to run a bunch of background crap as well.
EA has made me mad in the past, and have been money whores for a very long time.  Hell! they got sued by their own employee's.

So in the end EA sucks, doesn't mean BF sucks, but EA. All you EA fanboys here that think they're God, can kiss my ass.

Oh shit! It's World of Warcrafy controversy all over again.

I downloaded the EA Downloader from their site a few days ago. And have continued to run Microsoft Anti-Spyware and normal Web Surfing.

Instead of only getting the Virtumundo Adware, I'm plagued with about 5 more Spyware files.

Hmmmmmmmm . .. . . . . . . . .  . .

I'll boycott it.. I was actually gonna boycott EA since they bought the NFl rights, but this game is too good.. Anyways, I like having discs, 'cause when I try to download stuff, I get kicked off the internet 'cause I'm on a ghey network.

you can delete the downloader after you d/l the booster pack... im still not buying it... If they had it in the store for 15 bucks yeah, i would probably buy it...  The screenshots don't look that impressive anyway...
and SF looked cool on the box and screenshots but it isn't much fun to play... im not anti EA just gonna wait for the mods P.O.E... Shattered Faith... BF Apocalypse... BF Eve of Destruction... and i also make maps...
I made a map with 8 choppers on either side... its a blast...       CB

um are you mad cause you can't buy disks? or is it the fact that you dont have a credit card? Anyways you can disable it or close it out all together, plus I looked in it & there is no spyware

I for one am going to buy the measly $10 packs , its not that much money... I feel more ripped off from SF.

No need to post this on BFS2.com - If people agree with your point of view, they won't buy it. If they don't agree they may buy. This post does nothing but make you the threadstarter of yet another controversial thread against the excellent corporation that produced the game that we all love enough to register on a website about the game. I'll buy whatever software I have to buy to have fun. I didn't buy BFV because enough people still played DC. If I don't have to buy these booster packs, I won't. Because BF2 rocks with or without.

heres a thought for you, you can not play, and i will, seems perfectly reasonable to me. believe it or not, complaining does nothing, you just need to suck it up, give EA another $10 and have fun

What the hell is up with these people that post complete fabrications as if they were facts? This is complete garbage. The EA Downloader is not Spyware. It could be classified as Adware because it *gasp* actually shows you games that you can use the program to purchase and download. but considering that is the point of the program I don't consider that Adware.

As other have already stated, but which needs to be stated again since others have also restated the falsehood by the original poster, the EA Downloader does NOT need to be running to play the games. Period. I don't have a hard-on for EA, but I will buy their products that I am interested in. I think they could definitely do a better job of rolling out patches though.

As for the whole download/CD contoversy I do think they should offer the booster packs in retail format. If for nothing else to shut up little whiners. Really though, they are a business. Do you complain that Coke sells it's product in cans when you want yours sold in little sippy cups? They are free to sell whatever they want in whatever form that they want. If it works they will be profitable, if not, they will lose money.

With SF, I stopped a couple places on my way home the day it was released and they were sold out, so I ended up buying it through the downloader. And, if you follow the directions in another thread posted here, you can copy the installation to a DVD/CDs and be able to reinstall the game int he future without having to download it again. Yes you can forget your password and it would be a hassle to have to download again if you had to do a reinstallation, but there are benefits as well. What if you bought a CD version and you ended up losing the CD or damaging it. Then you would have to buy it again if you needed to reinstall.

So, no I will not boycott. They are allowing me to purchase more content at a very reasonable price. I was a little disappointed that the download of SF was the same as the retail version, but perhaps that was the cost to get the system up an running.

Giant_Squid500, your not to bright are you.  the_heart_attack is from Canberra, Australia as can be seen under his name in the details section.

As for buying games using a credit card, considering the booster pack is only available on line, purchasing using a credit card would be the obvious choice.

I for one will be buying the packs, on-line using a credit card, as for US$10, you can hardly go wrong even if the game sucks not much lost.  As for EA being money grabbing, what do you expect they are a business, the sole purpose of which is to make a profit to keep share holders happy.  No profit no new games, no fun for you and me.

As long as they sell good games which i can derive pleasure from they will continue to get my hard earned cash.

Um. I bought BF2 with a credit card. I pay for stuff with a credit card. Just because you're a little computer geek living off his parent's cash doesn't mean other people cannot use a credit card to buy stuff. What so stupid about using a card to pay for shit?

wow something which most people agree on ea's being an ass and cheeky not to release on cd.. I mean even if yo8u don't have your net capped down to modem speeds it's still gonna take you around 7 hours to dowload unless your one of them rich peopel with 10000000 mbit cable... much easier jsut going to a store buying box and going home (20 mins max) and it's better pshchologically cause you have another sexy game box setting in your collection
