So here's the deal.  I am going away to college at the end of August and I don't want to have to drill any holes in my walls for cable internet in my room upstairs.

I have Comcast Cable internet downstairs (the room below mine) and the stairs are right next to this room which is convenient because I can run a cable up the side.  I don't want wireless internet (connection problems with where I live) so I was wondering...what do I need to divide the cable internet running from the wall into this computer so that it still provides internet to this computer but also to the one upstairs?

Karma for answers.

What he said you need a router, they are cheap, go out to Best Buy and don't let them sell you one, just buy one

I already have a wireless router.  Would that mean that I just plug another ethernet cable into the back port, run it up to my computer in the upstairs and plug it into another...modem?

Edit: Fuck.  I'm confused.

Edit sorry, I miss read.

Just plug another cable into the router and plug the other end into the other computer.

Wall -> Modem -> router

Yes.

Just run an ethernet cable from a spare port on the back of your current router (it probably has the modem built in, if that's why you're confused), up the stairs, to the second computer.

Job done.

Ok, I got it now.

But on this computer, I have a USB ethernet connector.  Do I need another for my other computer or is there an ethernet plug on the back somewhere?  It hasn't arrived yet that's why I am asking.

You need a Router or Ethernet HUB, look on eBay, they have really good prices for both.
