I've been pondering this in my head for a while now and i've finally decided to do it, But first i need to know how hard would it be? Mapping i'm fine with(Thank you fflink13 ) But modeling is another story, How hard would it be to model your own weapons? What program would i have to use? Will it cost money or are there free ones that do just aswell of a job? And how do i make reload and vehicle animations? Please if anyone has any experience please tell me.
You have to use 3DS Max 7 I believe, and possibly some other programs for other aspects of modelling (skinning etc). Animations and shit are all coding if I'm not mistaken. I know you'd need to know Python, but there's gotta be another language too.
In all, it's basically impossible to make a 'total conversion' mod like POE2 or DCON without a team of specialists.
edit - If you're serious about this though, check out
www.bfeditor.org
and you might want to ask around on the POE forums. The devs there are pretty nice and I'm sure they'd be glad to give you some tips and ideas on what modding is like.

Thx man i have bf editor already and i'm starting on a driveby map(Which my mod is going to be based on) Btw do you know any free programs that model?
Can't honestly say I know any free ones. There *Are* ways to get 3DS Max free, but I can't discuss it on these forums. Hmm, look outside, a bit of torrential rainfall.
Ok then nevermind if its illegal i dont wanna do it(Unless it involves a big pay-off) How much would be the cheapest version of 3ds max?
If you have to ask you can't afford it.
Ok then how about blender? I heard its free.cablecopulate wrote:

Serious software like that tends to cost.
basic level 3d modeling software costs between 300 and 500, and top level goes for 1000+
Blender's probably a fine piece of software and a good way to wet your feet in 3D modeling. Whether or not its model files work with BF2 is another story.
It is. And it's one of the 'industry standard' packages. So they can charge whatever the hell they want for it and all the big games devs and hollywood production companies will still buy it.David.Podedworny wrote:

Ok thx for all the help guys.
Before a mod closes this i have another question. How hard would it be to make an all weapons all vehicles mod? Are there any special files/folders i would have to rewrite in order for it to work?
