Return Flights from Dublin
In / around Times Square

£700 (~$1400)

I'm pretty excited! I'll hopefully be booking it along with my brothers sometime very, very soon. One thing I will do is take a helicopter tour of the city, which looks fantastic because a) i've never choppered, except in BF2 () and b) i have /failed to see big buildings before.

anything you recommend me to try? apart from some regular pizzaaaaaaaaaa.

Don't miss Chinatown. Walk around and find a restaurant that has as little decoration as possible. Find a place with no fancy furniture, no colorful signs or any of that crap. Go in and eat the cheapest great meal you have ever had.

Let's see...I've been there over 20 times so I should be able to help:

Check out Central Park, no doubt. It's amazing there.

Go to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, not the top of the Empire State Building. It takes over 2 hours to have to wait for the ESB, while the Top of the Rock is only 25 stories shorter. Trust me, it's not worth the extra 25. If you have time, check out the ESB as well though.

CHECK OUT DOWNTOWN! It's awesome. Might wanna check Ground Zero too. It's pretty amazing to think 2 great buildings were once there.

Times Square, obviously. When you're there, go to ESPN Zone for lunch or dinner. (if you're into sports). It's pretty cool, they have like, 1000's of TVs. Even ones in the BATHROOM.

Little Italy kicks ass. Go there definately. Food galooooooooooooore.

One of the places you should check out for dinner is Jekyll and Hyde's. It's like a creepy-funny kind of place. Don't go for lunch though, it's not as good. At night they open up the better upstairs section.

Museum of Natural History is REALLY cool as well. It might not seem like it is, but it's really pretty interesting.

Bryant Park is another cool place to go. They've got some pretty cool shops and food around there. Last time I was there during the winter, I got these marshmellows covered in chocolate and sprinkles on a stick. SO GOOD.

5th Avenue's really cool to just walk down as well.

Also, check out the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum! ANY BF2 fan would love it. It's a really cool Aircraft Carrier that was converted into a museum.

Lastly, Ellis Island. It's like the paris hilton of immigration - Lots of people have been in and out of it. And when I mean lots, I mean over 20 million!

One major tip: BRING LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY. YOU WILL BE SPENDING IT!

The World Trade Center site is a nice place. A good memorial, and you can watch the reconstruction.

On that note: If you want to see the Empire State Building, be prepared for a three-hour wait. No joke.

If you're gonna see the Statue, go to Ellis Island as well. Also, don't ever take a rowboat near it. I was with a group of students, rowing across the Hudson. I guess we got too close, cause immediately, 3 Coast Guard fast boats with M249s and a Coast Guard helicopter came out from behind Liberty Island came out and confronted us. Better safe than sorry.

Now, on to my tips:

SEE A BASEBALL GAME. Yankees or Mets (preferably the orange and blue), but see what became of cricket in the United States.
LEARN TO USE MASS TRANSIT. Better than spending money on a taxi (whoo, they're damn expensive now). Avoid from 6 AM-9 AM and 3 PM-8 PM.
VISIT CARMINE'S. Expensive Italian food on Times Square. Damned good, though. Quite classy, too. Your classic restaurant from movies like The Godfather (minus the mobsters).
VISIT KATZ'S DELI. Located (technically) in the Lower East Side, Katz's has the best damned pastrami in the city. Period.

That's all I've got so far. Have fun! I'll make sure to yell out "leetkyle" every time I see someone possibly Irish.

Story time! Yayz!

2-3 years ago, I was in a summer program which involved studying the health of the Hudson, and learning to row and stuff. Our final day or class involved rowing across the river in a fleet of 6 Whitehalls and a picnic once we reached the Jersey shore (a rather nasty one, I may add [glares at Undetected]). Well, one of our boats may have cut the boundary to the restricted zone around Lady Liberty (crashing into one of the buoys, psh) and the entire friggin' Coast Guard detachment surrounded us. Imagine about 24 teenagers and 6-7 adults in rowboats, surrounded by 3 Coast Guard fastboats and a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter, complete with M249s trained on them.

And no, we waited till the current was flowing downstream (one of the skills we learned). Of course, rowing back upstream was a bitch. And it also decided to rain.

Waving nicely to (old) people in Circle Line boats then flipping them off is fun, though.

Check out Mamoun's near Washington Square Park which is in the village http://www.mamounsfalafel.com/. Try a picnic at the park at DUMBO (Down Under The Manhattan Bride Overpass) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUMBO,_Brooklyn. It is a big park between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges on the east river in Brooklyn. Very nice place. Also try making your way WAY up town, like 190th street, go to one of the parks over there, perhaps the one by the Cloisters museum http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_of_Art/d … asp?dep=7. The view of the Hudson River up there is amazing.

Edit: Almost forgot! Take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge!

The ICP (International Center of Photography or something like that) is cool too. If you're looking at hotels, try the Double Tree hotel near Broadway. It looks hokey from the outside, but it's fucking enourmously tall, the rooms are very nice for the price, and they give you FREE WARM CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES WHEN YOU SIGN IN. And it's conveniently located near, as I said, Broadway and also lots of taxis *as if there is a lack of them anywhere*. And their restaurant *while it may go against the bible of visiting places, it's nice for late-night arrivals to NYC by car* has a kick ass French Onion Soup.

You should also see a musical. I thought "Wicked" was pretty good, and I've heard good things about "Hairspray" too. And if you go to any big-name places like the Guggenheim, be prepared to "Hurry up and wait." The lines for some of the museums and other attractions during peak tourism times are *eternal*.

Also, maybe it's not open now, but there's a nice diner near the aforementioned Double Tree. Might wanna check it out for breakfast some time.

I also cannot stress this enough - go to Lombardi's and Rice to Riches. Here are their addresses:

Lombardi's (you will definitely want to make reserves if you are a night-life kinda guy... it gets PACKED)
Neighborhood: Manhattan/Little Italy
32 Spring Street
(between Mott St & Mulberry St)
(212) 941-7994
New York, NY 10012

Rice to Riches
37 Spring Street
between Mott and Mulberry St,
New York City - 212.274.0008

It's right across from Lombardi's, you can't miss it.

I love NYC, hell the entire state is nice. One time I was in Buffalo and had a delicious 'beef on wek' sandwich.

Yeah, I've seen a few pictures of it and it looks quite big! (Central Park). I was told to not to go the ESB but to a nearby building that was just as tall. I'm pretty excited to see that! Never even been in area in any country like 'downtown' so that'll be an experience! I'm not into UK sports but definetely US sports (NASCAR and the like). There is a restaurant called Little Italy round where I live - it's nice. I'll have to check out that carrier/museum thing.. and take some pics!

Poseidon, Hurricane, and Cowami have all the bases covered. Rice to Riches is surely amazing, best rice pudding i've ever had. The chopper ride should be pretty crazy, I've only seen the city from the ground.
Cowami: Yes. And don't worry, "intestine" tastes good.
Fish stomach soup actually isn't that bad, just have to get used to the consistency. Just be warned, a real chinese food restaurant has completely different food than a takeout place; it's like night and day.

You'll have a great time, and if you run out of things to do, you should just take a random walk around, there is more than enough stores to go into and things to see just by walking.

I've never been to Chinese fast food. I'd rather eat McDonalds. God knows how much MSG and shit they use to keep the... "meat" flavorful.

And yeah, walking = how to find interesting stores, either that or ask the locals. And also, green means stop and red means go (when walking). I kid you not, it's the pedestrians that rule the streets.
