im guessing EA will nerf it a good deal, but i am holding out for the 3 second burst from the cannon taking out a tank or APC, but thats my opinion

The cannon will be like the eryx or SRAW, you'll have to make 4 or 5 passes to kill it.

The A10 is the tank destroyer jet.

Adding a realisticly powerful A10 would significantly unbalance the game.  Gameplay wins.

I d like to fly an a-10 warthog in bf2. I hope the 30 mm avenger is bit like the one in desert combat.

Hope they ll fit it with ap clusterbombs. That would be rather sweet, killing armour with the avenger and infantry with clusterbombs.

And i also hope that the ea guy that felt the payload of the attack choppers was too big takes a long holiday right around the time they develop the a-10.

They'll make the A-10 really strong again ground vehicules and choppers but weaker than bombers against AA and fighters/interceptors. Shoot down a A-10 is really easy what's why US Air force no longer use it in air/ground attacks (only for reconnaissance, the OA-10), it may be heavily armored but very slow, and its huge reactors are its weakness.

chances are pretty slim EA will make it an ownage plane.........

In DC I rocked as a jet pilot and as a helo pilot.....  But physics are much too different here in BF2 to make those cool moves with a helo or a jet....

They'l probably make the A-10 a version of the bomber, but then with more bombs.......

first get your facts straight...

we still use the A-10 for ground attacks - it was never intended for air engagments

the A-10 just like the rest of our jets are still getting weapon and avionic upgrades extending the life of the airframes and killing power

the A-10 is soon to get its "glass cockpit" instead of the old dials and guages its getting displays like the F-15E and F-16 - the A-10 will be used at least another 20 years

what the hell are "huge reactors" ???  im guessing you mean engines - it may be slow but can do a 360 in a football stadium - the F-35 is slated to replace the F-16 and A-10 but thats at least a decade from now when they start phasing them out

A-10 as a recon aircraft???  what are you smoking??  wrong again buddy - maybe you meant Predator, Global Hawk or the U-2 Dragon Lady??

the booster pack Armored Fury will add teh A-10 to the jet list

The French Site NoFrag have obtain renders for the second Battlefield 2 Booster Pack: Armored Fury. One of the renders showcases the A-10 Thunderbolt.

(Google Translated): Yesterday evening, while farfouillant a little in the site lodging the first images of Battlefield 2: Euro Force, one discovered what resembles extremely the renders of five new vehicles planned for Battlefield 2: Armored Fury, the second booster rocket pack (which must leave at the end of March). Here thus these images. According to Nooky, it Knew-25 one there there Frogfoot, English Harrier, a not identified plane and a helicopter and finally A10 Thunderbolt.

If EA screws up the A-10 i'll be pissed off, its not a weak plane, its GAU-8 30.mm avenger cannon fires delpeated uranium rounds, ive held one of the bullets at a airshow and those things are heavy! When the plane fires one of those guns it accually slows the thing down because the recoil is so strong, and look for that video of a A-10 destroying a decomissioned abrams tank in 2 seconds from a burst with its gun

WRONG.

It is used less beause it has relatively poor avionics load unless mounting external pods with electronics.
Thus, it has a severely limited capability to carry the "smart" munitions our modern doctrine requires.
For the same reason, it has been involved in a relatively large number of freindly fire incidents, giving it a bad rep for munching on friendlies.

It is actually QUITE renowned for being a sturdy jet, being able to fly with most of one wing blown off, and as for missiles being able to hit its "big reactors", it can only be effectively targeted from the rear because of the placement of its horizontal stabilizers mask both sides entirely.

And anything behind an a-10 in attack mode? is dead.

It is being phased out because is was designed to take out huge swaths of armored targets, to counter the warsaw numerical advantage over nato armored assets in europe. A strategic reality that is now obsolete.

The new airforce doctrine relies on f-22 raptors to gut an enemies anti-air assets in the theater, allowing the relatively cheap f-35s to take out any remaining assets and armored forces with smart munitions to minimize collateral damage.

In short: The a-10 is being phased out because its the 8-gauge shotgun when we are planning on going varmint hunting.

Get your facts straight.

My apologies. First, I shouldn't say "reconnaissance" (which it's wrong I admit it) but "airborne forward air control". Rahh..reactors. I'm wondering why I wrote that.

The harsh physical environment meant that deficiencies in technology, tactics, techniques and procedures were readily exposed. One conclusion was that a CAS aircraft operating in mountainous areas requires good acceleration. This in fact is one of the major drawbacks of the A-10. The USAF has found itself fighting in mountainous regions in Yugoslavia. And significant mountains exist in other conflict-prone parts of the world such as Central Asia, East Africa and western South America. So US air force units could again see combat in this type of environment. On the plains SAM operators will have more time to acquire attacking aircraft in their sights so good acceleration is also an advantage there. Even today, the A-10s low acceleration would be a cause for concern.
"12-gauge shotgun" good description of the most feared aircraft of the last fifteen years
But with an average speed of Mach 0.56, we'll see who will laugh when an A-10 appears on the battlefield. At this moment, I think there would be less "tank whores" and choppers as usual, but with all .50cal MGs/AA vehicules/flying fighters of the map trying to shot down the most threatening aircraft of the game, I won't give much of its chances of survival.

the A10 is for Armored Assault, which comes out the 5th of March, supposedly, im sure if you check the archives for major news sites you can find the reder or model for it

A A10 would be great, i just hope it's not to strong because a real A-10 can fly riped up to shit anyway.

So is it certain that they'll put an Warthog in BF2?  Is it going to be like in the "booster pack" or something?  I think it would be badass to have it in the game (even though i can't fly worth a crap).
