A couple of minutes ago, I pressed the power button on the TV and it made the sound of the TV turning on but the power light started blinking instead of staying on and the TV never came on.  I tried turning the TV off and on and I checked the power connections and everything and it still never came on.  So did the PSU in the TV die?

This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing since it's a standard definition TV and i've been nagging my parents to get HD.

Edit: Now the power button doesn't turn off the blinking light anymore.

We had something very similar happen with our Phillips, a power relay had gone bad so it wasn't forwarding the power to set. Get a tech to come check it out, might not be to bad of a repair- just find one who gives free estimates.

I had a similarish problem where my TV wouldn't come out of standby. It was all down to the EHT, one of the resistors didn't have the impedance it was supposed to, so I replaced it.

Yes, several times.

I guess we'll have to see what's wrong with it when my dad gets home.

Looks like my dad wants to "fix" it with a wall-mounted flatscreen, lol.

So you broke it subconsiously ? that be awesome now you can get that hd tv. Go get a blue ray one if they have it which I'm sure they do.

I don't think they make Blue Ray TVs, lol.  But we'll see what we can do as far as DVD players go.  Not much point in having a an SD DVD player hooked up to an HD TV.  It would seem unlikely that we get a Blue Ray DVD player seeing as how the cheapest ones are like 500 bucks.

Edit: To clear things up with the story (not that it matters anymore really), no I did not subconsciously break it, lol.  It broke itself, my mom told me to check it out when I woke up at like 10:30 because she said it had been flickering pretty badly all morning.  Those were it's final hours, lol.  In some way it kind of sucks though because I wanted my parents to give it to me for my room when they eventually upgraded to HDTV.  I guess i'll have to stick to the 27" Magnavox that we've had since I was born (1992).  The one that I have been talking about throughout this thread was 32" and it had a component slot and 2 composite/S-video slots as well as a single composite slot, the one have now only has a composite slot.

You could get an HDMI upscaling DVD player, that's what I've got. Samsung DVD-HD850.

Could you explain to me how DVD upscaling works?  Is it like how an XBox 360 can play XBox games in HD?

In laymans terms, it makes the picture look better.

A lot like, as you say, the Xbox 360 playing Xbox games in HD.

Still nowhere near as good as Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.
